has been fired at OSU.
Or Trav could retire and UM hire Wayne.Guess Decuire could hire him to be an assistant coach here.
Rather a polite way to put it. Not sure what the problem was there, but he could not seem to sustain any success ... with a decent year followed by two or three downers. He's not that old so I don't see him retiring. With his experience overseas, I could see him coaching there at the pro level. He's a good man. Sorry to see him fired, but OSU has struggled the last few years.
Probably North of 21,000,000 including buyout. I say leave with a smile and step light. Good work sir.Dude made a lot of money in 12 years.
Even with Oregon (and Federal) taxes, that should be a nice chunk of change.Probably North of 21,000,000 including buyout. I say leave with a smile and step light. Good work sir.
Highly unlikely, but here's a fantasy redo: comes back to UM, brings family, he takes on men's BB, daughter takes over LG.....now that's fantasy!!I know he won’t, but he’s always welcomed back in some capacity
Stop it. Love Wayne to death, but our programs need a breath of fresh air not 60+ year old retreads.Highly unlikely, but here's a fantasy redo: comes back to UM, brings family, he takes on men's BB, daughter takes over LG.....now that's fantasy!!
Hopefully we have Decuire for awhile but it also crossed my mind that maybe Wayne would do well in the women's game...he did raise and develop good talent in Joslyn and Elle so he has shown he can work with and get buy-in from young female athletes.Highly unlikely, but here's a fantasy redo: comes back to UM, brings family, he takes on men's BB, daughter takes over LG.....now that's fantasy!!
I think the world of Travis, but I believe he is stale here. I believe he never imagined he wouldn't be at UDub, Cal, or Stanford by now. The Big Sky is one of the lowest rated conferences in the country, so I have no doubt he could win the conference title every 3-4 years into forever. But this guard heavy rotation he prefers will almost never result in wins against quality teams and the prospect of ever winning a game in the tourney seems extremely far fetched.Hopefully we have Decuire for awhile but it also crossed my mind that maybe Wayne would do well in the women's game...he did raise and develop good talent in Joslyn and Elle so he has shown he can work with and get buy-in from young female athletes.
What makes you think he couldn't get another D1 coaching job? OSU was a perennial bottom dweller in the PAC (with a few short respites) as it never had the resources or fan base of other programs save Wazoo. Treading water at those places is a victory and in the new big boy era it will be even more difficult.Great interview with Wayne pulling back the curtain a bit. Says he's not done coaching and Tres wants to get into coaching as well. I wouldn't think he could get another D1 head coaching job, but maybe an assistant job or potentially step down to like D2 or NAIA? Regardless, it'll be interesting to see how they do at the WCC tournament. They're the 4 seed so if they win their first game then they would get Gonzaga in the semis which would seem like a very tall order, but who knows. It's March, anything can happen.
I mean AD's are gonna look at his overall record and 2 tourney appearances in 12 years and come away skeptical. It doesn't matter what circumstances he was dealt with at OSU, all that matters is the win-loss column. Maybe he can get a very low level D1 head job from like an NAU type program, but there's no way he'd be able to get another job on par with OSU. Now he can definitely get an assistant job at the D1 level, but I'd be surprised if he got a head coaching gig. What makes you think he couldn't get another D1 coaching job?
