LadyGriz LG/Harris Contract

I assume many of you Montana residents have read that Spencer Laird of Missoula Loyola and likely the top female player in the state in the class of 2027 has committed to Stanford. Grandfather, aunt and mother are all legacy Griz yet she is going out of state. The true elite girls in the state are going to leave. Top player in class of 2026 is also going out of state. What, if anything can we do to attract them?. last Gatorade player of the year to play for the Griz was Dani Bartsch when Schweyen was still the HC and recruited her to UM.
Stanford > almost any other school in the country. But we see your point. ;)

You can't blame anyone wanting to go to Stanford, top notch school. The player from Frenchtown committed to Boise State, she played for Meta Hoops out of Boise which is owned by Aaron Holsinger. The other top player in the state is from Baker, MT and is going to MSU, she played for NW Blazers-out of Bozeman. The club director is former MSU Men's standout. having connections to high school coaches and club coaches/directors matter.

The NW Blazer person you speak of is not the director of the Blazers, but runs the MONTANA BLAZERS. O'Conner did not play for the MT BLAZERS. Meclan (THE MT BLAZERS DIRECTOR) brings in MT talent and if they are good enough.....AKA Spencer Laird and O'Conner they play for the National Blazer program just like Quinn used too and other top MT talent.

People hear the BLAZER name and assume all BLAZER teams are all on the same level, but that isn't true. PSA BLAZERS, MT BLAZERS, NW BLAZER S40...Then you get to the NATIONAL LEVEL BLAZERS. All those sub BLAZER groups are a way to feed the national team. The National BLAZER program/team is where all the BLAZER talent is. Will also add that there is plenty of talent in the BLAZER programs mentioned, just not the talent the LG are looking for.

Quinn (Frenchtown) was a Blazer then switched to Meta. Boise St has a MT connection with with Petrino. Pretty sure he had been recruiting Quinn since before her frosh year.

NW SELECT (OR Indy), NW BLAZERS (OR, WA, ID, MT under armor), GREYHOUNDS (WA, OR adidas), NW LEGENDS (WA Nike), FBC WEST COAST/FBC NW ALLIANCE (OR, CA, WA Puma,) and META (MT, ID and OR Adidas) are the primary AAU programs in the PNW. Coach Harris and his staff have connections or at least should to all these programs, however its the relationships you mention that matter.

Eagle HS in Boise...only 1 senior on Eagle that is D1 talent. She is actually the niece of Holsinger and is signed with Liberty. They have 2 outstanding JRs. One with loads of interest and offers in Berkely Jones. LG have no chance at her. The other Taya Nelson is starting to attract some attention of 4 years schools. We see Taya more as a NAIA or D2 kid to be honest as her shooting if not improved will limit her level of play.

The rest of the high level talent is young or locked up. Colvin JR, from CDA high level recruit and will go higher than BSC, Lakeland HS has some solid 4 year level talent, but the best of the bunch is a frosh. She has D1 talent the others are lower level 4 year players.

Not sure what Pocatello or Boise HS have, but there is not much talent in the state of ID at the moment.
If you don’t try you will never know. UM has not offered Jones or been down to Boise to watch her. University of Idaho and Southern Utah have and both offered. Not saying she will goto either but have to try. Boise State, Utah Valley, Utah State and Arizona State also offered.

Yes you are correct. We sure don't know if the LG staff has watched her. They are the ones to ask.

We were just stating the obvious. If she falls to BSC it will be as a bounce back in the portal. Just our 2 cents. She is a P4 player that if develops a consistent 3 point shot will be a name you hear about a lot. Her motor is relentless and that is rare now days.

Ho Hum, another disappointing showing by the ladies tonight. I can’t really blame the ladies but I’ve yet to see Nate or even any assistant get pissed. Pissed at the ladies, the officials or even the ball boys. Everyone including the coaches and the girls show minimal emotion. A technical has its place. Remember Heathcote, he take off his jacket and throw on the ground and stomp on it. He’d get so red in the face it was like he was going to blow a blood vessel. And Robin, he’d cuss and have a tantrum. I realize it’s out of character for some, but it sure worked well for those two. It almost like Nate would rather be their friend than their coach.
And someone please explain to me, and it happens in both men’s and women’s basketball. With time running down in the half, 20 secs left, they chose to play for the last shot and more often than not it comes up empty. Up 10 or down 10, there’s a chance you either make a shot, get fouled or worst case you turn it over. Maybe that’s why I’m not a coach.

I think the Lady Griz have given up on the season possibly 5 or so games ago. So, no point in getting all pissed off.
This game, they gave up at the 4:26 minute mark in the 4th quarter.

She’s going to end up at Boise State.

There is no offensive movement. They sit at the arc with minimal amounts of cuts to hoop. Whhhhhy? I still have faith but something new needs to happen. Same plays over and over.

Odd one to watch at the beginning, Avery out at point ,lots of ball and player movement, good flow. All of the sudden Avery comes out, Konig comes in, less ball movement, much of the same old game, not much productivity. Konig goes out, Avery back in, team begins to play better, things forming again, but not at the rate when Avery left the first time. What gives?? I'm guessing maybe because Avery has a taped up shoulder, and Konig has amending leg, they do so much subbing, seemed disjointed at any rate. Same old stuff, all the sudden Land is on, others cold off scoring, 8% FG last Qrt... Sac has a lot of hustle, good shots.

That's kind of been going on for much of the year, and you're not the only one that has noticed the difference when Konig is in or out. What is surprising is why hasn't it been fixed by now. Does the coach notice it or is he unable to fix it. Or, have the players developed some kind of apathy due to all the losing that they do not care anymore. I believe I noticed some of the things that Sport posted. A couple of games ago, I watched the bench and I was actually expecting to see the players on the bench look pretty dejected about how they were playing, but they didn't. Apathy? A coach cannot fix something, if the players don't care anymore. There could be issues between some players for all I know.

This is both a coaching problem and player problem and I do not see it being fixed this year and I figure there is going to some considerable player movement to the portal. I had a dream last night that all the players entered the portal this year and all the team would have is the 4 players signed for next year that are bound to the letter of intent they signed. It looked just like it happened here:

April 6-20, Vegas time again, so many variables and shake out. As for UM sports, and women's BB, its shopping. Hopefully the bargains are out there, you bring it home cook up a good team with what you got!! On the micro level we can't loose sight of supporting our kids, and coaches for better , or worse.

Having alumni coaching in high school and running or coaching AAU programs and the university and basketball program staying connected with the alumni helps with recruiting

Remember Bobby Knight when he would throw a chair across the court. That's the type of coach we need, right?

That type of behavior is outdated and shows that you can't control your emotions when faced with adversity. A coach is much more effective when modeling the type of behavior expected of athletes and others when faced with difficult circumstances - keep a level head and think and behave rationally. Don't throw a temper tantrum like a bloated, orange-faced, eighty year old acting like they are eight years old.

I really, really hope Coach Harris finds a way to visit with and pick the University of Minnesota Head Coach Niko Medved's and his coaching staff's brains after the LG season is over. The University of Minnesota men's basketball team plays a 5 out/4 out motion offense with Princeton actions and it is a lot of fun to watch and it looks to fit the players the LG have.

Not to validate Bobby Knight’s chair throwing antics, that would be on the other fringes of acceptable behavior. However a well placed and timely TF can ignite a team. Selvig was very good at pushing all the right buttons at the right time.

Not trolling this time because I know Harris. I really like the guy, although I agree with this sentiment. Nate could use some fire and anger. I get the sense a few of his players are already built this way and are holding back. On a side note, Logie, normally quiet and composed, got T'd up in the 2nd half against SAC on Saturday. At that point in the game it went from a 2-point toss-up to a 20 point Cat win. Sport isn't wrong.
