I noticed the amount of substituting Tricia did throughout the game.
Cats lead 8 - 4 when Lady Griz started to substute players out. Cat's lead ballooned after that. Seems to indicate to me that Cat's have greater and better quality depth on the bench then the Lady Griz have.
I know I am biased, but I have watched every Big Sky game played this season. On the Women's side, MSU plays 11 players that play (one just came back before UM game), all of those 11 players would be starters, or 1st off the bench and averaging 20 minutes a game for any other Big Sky Team. There isn't another team in the Big Sky that is that deep, and it isn't close.
Sad thing for me is, I'm not angry. I wish I were. It'd be a sign that I still care about either progrm.
On the distaff side, three or four black recurits in all the years since the Lady Griz program began. I'd hoped with the three coaches since Selvig that this would change. It has not. Both the men's basketball program and the football program can recruit black talent. The women won't or can't. No hope without that talent in your program.
On the men's side I go back to Mike Montogmery, doing color on a Montana v. Oregon game years ago, when he said, in effect, he could see no scheme to the Montana offense.
Flash forward, and we have a bona fide NBA prospect; a solid big man (by Big Sky standards); a four-star redshirt freshman when four-star recruits are a rarity in the BIg Sky; a three-time Gatorade Player of the Year from New Mexico; and a dynamic athletic transfer from UNLV. That should be the core of a team no Big Sky school could touch.
Yet they have, five times. Third place in the standings. Two losses to our arch-rival, the latest on our home court.
Big man? Hard to find in ten years of this regime. Five guards on this year's roster with four more scheduled to come in next year.
Offensive coordinator? My recommendation years ago. Still think we need a shakeup in this coaching staff.

The Cats run that many subs every game. Starters only averages around 25ish minutes a game for her.

Which makes one wonder why Binford kept her starters in and the press on when up by almost 40 during the game in Bozeman or why the starters were still on the floor with under 1:00 to play in Missoula while up by 19.

You play to win, especially a rivalry game, she wanted to embarrass UM and she did twice, its good for their recruiting.
Not even Idaho. Idaho is VERY good, and their starting 5 (when clicking) is elite, but their bench isn't as deep. That was apparent when they played in Bozeman. Idaho had 28 Bench Points (pretty good really) but MSU had 47. In the 2nd meeting MSU bench only had 14 Points, to Idaho 28. I would take MSU bench over Idaho Bench. The main difference is, MSU can run the same Offense with bench on the floor, Idaho and other teams can't.
I didn't pay attention to subbing patterns in the UM game in Missoula, so will take a look. MSU NEVER takes the press off, not even when the starters are out. That is their game, and they are good at it. I get why fan bases are salty about it, but when you hockey line change like MSU does (about every 3 minutes) it comes down to rotation. Chirrick got a triple double in a game this year in 28 Minutes of play. It is a fine line/balancing act when you try and get minutes for stars, but your bench is extending the lead to 15-20.
Bin didn't keep the starters in, she rotated the entire game like usual. The least you can do is look up the box score. The Cats suited up 10. The lowest minutes played was 15 and the most was 24.
Missoula Feb 14th play by play: Chirrick, Johnson, Phillip, Bunyan and Harris subbed out with 57 seconds left in the 4th qtr.
Not complaining, I expect it from Binford. It would be a shame if she loses a starter to injury in the final minute of a game when up by nearly 20. But you’ll be cool with it. LOL.
Too bad layup line dunks don’t get tallied on the scoreboard.
