Coaching movement

How do you think UM recruited for 3-3-5? What would be missing to change the scheme? Which players wouldn’t fit a new scheme?
Smaller lineman that are quicker, able to shoot gaps a little better but not contain gaps. Linebackers that act more like rushing ends (Riley Wilson being the prototype, much better blitzer than actual LB).

I think more of what will make transitioning difficult isn't the player type but more of the schematic change. It's not often you see a defense where the front 7 (6 I guess) has the responsibilities that Bobby's 3-3-5 did. They might actually have to stay gap sound rather than relying on chaos. Not difficult, just different than what the ones who have been here are used to.

I don’t understand your first paragraph.

All but 3 of our D linemen weigh 250lbs or less. We have 1 at 260 and 2 that weigh right at 285. Given that we need a couple 1-Techs around 300+ and couple 3 techs around 280-290 to run a 4 man front I’d say we are short a few guys…
OR they’re gonna start eating.

You asked how they would recruit differently for Hauck's 3-3-5 than a standard 4 man front defense. I answered. Not very confusing.

As you can see according to this explanation of the scheme, the Nose Tackle needs to be "stout" against the run. Control the A gaps. Every other player is smaller and quicker...DE's are longer and rangy etc. Gubner was that guy at nose. I think that was the missing piece this year vs the Cats. Against every other team it was very effective. Do the Griz have that NT this year? Personnel definitely matters.

Any word on if the same strength and conditioning folks are still here? Assuming if we’re running different scheme we will need different looking athletes for the defense.

Any of those Illinois State boys want to come over here?
What I heard is that Dan Ryan is staying but is being managed differently as in BK is going to be more hands off than Hauck in strength and conditioning. As far as Illinois State I doubt Matt Nicholson is coming back. He is not from Montana.

I was talking more about their big defensive lineman that gave the cats hell haha

I just counted 9 on roster 250 and over. And Schwartz is listed at 248.

Very simply it's more of a react then read style of play. Not read and react like they will likely be transitioning to. It is a different style of play.
Do you have anything that says the Griz will likely be transitioning to a read and react style of play?

Seems like we got more linebackers, Safety type players and only a few D-Linemen. Also, the fact that this happened in February and we recruited with the original coaching staff in mind. Granted a quick Google search says Eastern ran a 4-2-5 So perhaps we will switch to that scheme I just would like more beef/D-Linemen to improve our depth
What article did you find that says Eastern ran a 4-2-5?

I don't but it stands to reason. The new DC ran a 4-2-5 front with a classic read and react style at EWU last year. Very few programs in college football run the react and read like Hauck favors and nobody left on the staff is capable of coaching it up. I could be wrong but that is my guess. Do you have thoughts about what fronts and scheme the griz will play this year?

Where did you find information that says he ran a 4-2-5 defense with a classic read and react style at Eastern last year?

I'm thinking they will be multiple and play more aggressively than his squads did at Eastern.
