Did Hauck have the Illinois job when he announced his retirement?

Posted this in another thread, but it seems to substantiate what others are saying here that Bobby truly did hang it up first before he had any idea about Illinois:

It’s almost surreal to see Bobby in this environment as we know how much he hates social media stuff.

From what I can gather in this interview, Bobby announced retirement last Wednesday and Illinois coach started reaching out to him Friday (when he was in the middle of nowhere fishing with Tim). So I think the timing worked out the way it worked out. I don’t think he knew for certain he was heading to Illinois until after his announcement when you listen to this:

If so, it seems he would have announced it at the presser last week.
According to the Illinois fan forum, they knew on February 9th that Partridge was out. Chris Partridge "Sources tell FootballScoop this is not actually expected to happen. However, we understand Illinois is expected to make their actual hire soon. Stay tuned..." So this lines up as Hauck retired on February 4th. That doesn't mean Hauck wasn't contacted before his retirement and on Coach Bielema short list, but it makes sense that Hauck was contacted to take the job after he retired.

Why would he get sued, and for what? I've looked the contract. Schmidt isn't a business lawyer, and he's probably clueless about contractual law. And what's the damage even if he had talked to Illinois first. Do you think they would offer him the job before he retired from UM?
Uh yeah... plausible deniability. I think that's the legal speak right? "Oh I don't want to be a 'head coach' anymore. I am "retiring". a couple of days later..."Well, wait a sec, I didn't say I wasn't going to coach again, I just don't want to be a 'head coach' anymore, and honestly, the entire Illinois thing was just coincidence. you know. It happens". Dude, I sat court rooms three times a week for ten years. I know the smell of attorneys all too well. Deny, deny deny. When that doesn't work throw in an "I don't recall" and if THAT doesn't work, invoke the 5th. Nobody is going to tell the truth. Case in point, "I'm retiring" which, technically he did, until that ink on the retirement papers was dry and the new contract, which generally takes more than a couple of days to negotiate just manages to magically appear. But I'm not an attorney, I just played one on TV.

He may not have talked to Illinois right before retiring. You can bet he DID talk to Illinois at some point a few times I would imagine, otherwise his name wouldn't have been at the top of a short list, and this wouldn't be such a "coincidence".

Again, not that I care. just like the players that transfer... Bye Felicia. You're not Griz anymore. I didn't think about BH after he left for UNLV the first time, Pflugrad, Delaney, Stitt, and I won't concern myself with BH or his success after I finish this post anymore than I did the others.

Of course he did.

They just tell people that he and Illinois only talked after that. They even made up the fishing with no cell service story. If you depose current coaches on Montanas staff they would perjure themselves if they corroborated Haucks story. Plenty of people knew before hand. You all will find that out soon enough

Is your arm getting tired from all that stirring?

Attorneys are attorneys. We all know they are great upstanding people that everyone loves and they would never lie, or make up anything or you know... concoct alibis for their clients.

That is a profession that is as old as prostitution and just as morally ambiguous. As the saying goes, everyone hates lawyers until the need one. No offense to the attorneys.

i said this in another thread, but if hauck was using a university-issued phone, then his messages could potentially be reviewed. it happened before with a soccer coach in 2018. here's the a.i. answer i received to the question:

Yes, in early 2018, the University of Montana decided not to renew the contract of women's soccer coach
Mark Plakorus after an investigation revealed he used a university-issued cellphone to text escort services during recruiting trips. The investigation was initiated following complaints from players regarding inappropriate, excessive, and late-night messaging.

So what if he talked to the Ill coach before about defense? That’s what coaches do for a living. If he didn’t have the job lined up ahead of time, there is no argument for breach of contract or liquidated damages. Would you be as pissed if he just announced that he was taking an NFL job?

Why are you blaming Hauck’s situation on lawyers? He’s a football coach.

BS on plenty of people knew. I am told that people close to him were surprised. My good friend, who is Bobby’s great friend and who talked to Bobby the first night haslam was informed and a long time the next day, was not told. And didn’t get any such impression. You are a huge liar and fraud.

Coaches know company phones and emails can be looked at. I assume they are careful
these days. Compliance officers have found little recruiting violations by snooping.
