We need a new DC. Who is on your list?

Sounds like Cooper and Tim are moving on. I’m hearing Linehan also. So we are going to need some defensive coaches and a defensive coordinator. I’m thinking the easiest move is to promote from within and move Baer to DC. Players love him and he has a ton of experience there. I’d be looking at Gregorak as well. Hell after listening to Jordan Tripp talk defensive Xs and Os with Colter, I’d try to bring him in as a linebacker coach.

I actually don’t hate all of this. We will probably have some bumps, but this will probably get rid of the 335. And like I said on another thread after watching the defense last year, give up third and long what felt like 412 times maybe a defensive makeover is just what the doctor ordered.

I stated the same as much on Baer in the other thread. Makes the most sense for a right now move. Long term we need to go youthful. Would love to see us poach from proven programs coaching trees.

Tripp would be fun to see step back in for the secondary. He has a great analytical mind. He loves the Griz.

Schillinger???

Not going to be going younger but Duane Akina who I mentioned in the other thread sounds like a good option. Lots of experience coaching defense at power 4 programs. Some with BK. He has experience as DC at Texas and Arizona. Since he isn’t currently coaching in 2026 and close to retirement he could be easier to get with a 1 year contract. Has coached many top tier NFL players and Thorpe award winners in the secondary.

I think I would lean into Ty Gregorak as well. He’s an amped guy, knows UM, proven and seems to think highly of BK.
I just don’t think going way outside the box right now is good like getting a young guy with no experience. I do think we need to bring in more youth at coaching for sure but not whole sale on D right now.

Does he have any interest in getting back into coaching?

Gregorak would be taking a pay cut and he along with his family love living among the neighbors. I am not sure how keen he is on getting back into coaching at this point.

Wonder if he would consider moving his young family for what might be 10 months.
Maybe. He's already in the coaching lifestyle, and for all he knows he will be moving in 10 months anyway. I see your point, but getting back home with a chance to be the HC in waiting wouldn't be entirely unenticing.

I didn't think so.
While not best friends, I hang out with him and Kandice and common friends pretty regularly. They love Bozeman and are both involved in community. Their kids are VERY active and they are very active parents. He has a great job making great money with all the BS that comes with coaching. He works very hard with his tv gig and I think he’s one of the best getting better all the time. Basically he’s living a hell of a life right now and I suspect just being a great dad tops his list.

I said the same thing about the Cats DC opening. As much as I’d selfishly like to see it because I absolutely love the dude; no chance
