Did Hauck have the Illinois job when he announced his retirement?

My tailgates are fantastic. Always something new with exceptional drinks-both mixed and growlers of beer. Our shish kabobs are second to none and homecoming jambalaya is fantastic. And my smoked prime rib making French dip sandwiches is a favorite. I just have no problem with Hauck leaving. Doesn’t bother me one bit.
I’ll need to see this for myself. I will also be required to judge how good your kabobs are. For science purposes of course

For the lawyers - was there really a clause in his contract that he couldn't take another job but could "retire" without penalty? That's what it feels like to me but maybe I'm understanding it wrong.

Seems like an incredibly dumb loophole that he basically could've announced his retirement and then announced the new job a minute later and that would contractually somehow be different from just announcing that he's leaving for the new job.

You can pretty much negotiate a clause for anything that isn’t illegal. I could see an opt-out clause without penalty, provided BH didn’t take another head-coaching job for a specified, reasonable period of time.

The second para wouldn't work in your scenario. It's not a loophole, because it won't work. There's a provision in the contract saying he's not supposed to seek a new job, without notice to the school. And there's a liquidation clause like your first para. However, as I said earlier, that provision is poorly worded, because it doesn't say who would have to pay the liquidation clause. It just says it would go to the school.

Hauck retired, offered the job to Pease who turned it down wants to coach Ah Yat 2 more years then he's done. Hauck and Haslem gathered all the coaches and players and told them the news. UM wanted to go after Grant Olson DC from NDSU then a future coach chimed in and they decided on Kennedy as interm coach. New coach 2027 season.

Haslem is gone this summer, which is a good thing.

Hauck is taking some defensive coaches with to Illinois. At least one is gone for sure another will probably go depends on $$$

Thanks for the clarification, now the way this unfolded makes a lot more sense to me with the retirement and hire being completely separate events, although I don't believe for a second that any coach would actually follow that "don't seek a new job" clause over beers with fellow coach buddies

If this is true, I'll be really curious to see what happens with regard to Kennedy filling out a staff. A defensive staff forba lifetime offensive coach. If this is the case.....dang....

Chris Partridge, OLB coach for Seahawks had already accepted the job, and the Illini was willing to wait until after the Super Bowl. That was reported by multiple media sources including a local one. They were to announce Monday. For whatever reason Partridge changed his mind.

Bobby had no specific conversations about the DC job until the weekend. It came together so quickly that not all friends and family even knew until it was announced.

Anyone that says Bobby resigned knowing he had this job lined up is a liar.

My source came through the Illini side. Guy I worked with 30+ years ago is a major booster for them. Personally knows coaches

I don’t believe your first 2 paras.

Accurate. If you see him, ask Timmy when he found out.

I heard the exact same thing about Olson from NDSU..

I think someone already mentioned this but in the end who really cares how all of this came down. Bobby is gone and I for one will miss him and think he did a great job for us. I wish him well at Illinois

As if his f’in tailgate is any sort of big thing. You should see my f’in tailgate man. When I was back in Seattle, I had the goddamn Spoonman from the Soundgarden videos coming to my shit. I’m talking 6 grills burning at all times. Tiki torches, 3 whole pigs, shitloads of macaroni and cheeses, baked potatoes, collard greens, a horse, f’in Puerto Rican chicks showing their [assets] off everywhere. They were amazing. My tailgates smoke his stupid little dumb back lot principal-having tailgate shit.
Bring it bitch😎
