from most reports, hauck lobbied hard for the job, and enlisted some of the wealthier boosters to call for stitt to be fired and replaced by hauck. the whole thing had an 'old boy' feel to it. it's funny, because i had almost forgotten about that with his sudden 'retirement'. so whatever really happened in his latest move, my overall evaluation of his second tenure is now tinged with a bit of negativity.

Because before his retirement, your evaluation was so positive?🤣

Which current Big Sky Conference football coaches were active in 2017? Maybe Aaron Best?
Did Montana want a John Stieglmeier type coach with 25 years at the helm, and one championship trip and one championship win? Coach "Stig" is loved by the Jackrabbits for building a championship program, but I could have built a sailboat faster.
Hauck is gone. Did we really want old grandpa Hauck coaching at UM into his 70s?

It is a tough business. And part of the business is working with big donors. Bobby had those connections and was good at working those. It is the reality of college football today. And whether any of us like it or not those wealthy donors help put a better product on the field. Stitt didn't get that part of it. Cignetti did an incredible job but it is pretty obvious that he attached himself pretty quickly to Mark Cuban and John Cougar Mellencamp and that flow of cash made a huge difference.

Cig also has the advantage of being an incredible coach.

He did not receive an influx of cash until this season. It's pretty well documented how reluctant Cuban and other donors were when he first came in last year, but he took the losingest FBS program in history to 11 wins and earned their trust.
