Bobby as DC Makes Zero Sense

I could a give shit less what Bobby does with his career post-Griz, but it just seems like an absolutely baffling hire on Illinois' part. Last time he coached anywhere on D was DBs at U Dub 24+ years ago.

And what about his recent tenure here inspires confidence that he can build a consistently successful defense? It's arguably one of the aspects fans were most frustrated with - his inability to install a defense that could compete with FCS's best programs.

It's very hard to understand this move. Wonder how Illini fans feel about it.

Your comment shows how little you know about football, Griz football and Hauck. UM has competed at the top of FCS football most years under Hauck. No. 3 in the nation is the definition of competing at the top. You are an odd duck.

Lol. In just the last three years: Beat NDSU, beat SDSU, beat MSU, went to an NC game, only lost last year to the NC, but yeah...he's demonstrated the "inability to install a defense that could compete with FCS's best programs".
 
To imply that Hauck doesn't have the knowledge or experience to be a DC is laughable. I have no idea if he'll be successful or not, but the man understands his scheme and how to run it.

It's gonna be a huge task against Oregon and Ohio State, but they actually don't seem to have a super hard schedule outside of those games.

If nothing else, this'll be a fascinating test case for this particular brand of 3-3-5 against some of the best teams in all of college football.

I am excited about that aspect, to be quite honest. It will answer a lot of questions that Griz fans have had about the viability of the scheme itself.

All of this above was the defense that was the architect of, though not necessarily that he made the play call, as I said. Also his D that was historically good in 2021, 2022 and 2023. All of the above.

I'm not even trying to argue that he is a great defensive coach or will be a huge success. Just responding to the idea that he isn't a defensively focused coach or that the "last time he coached defense was at Washington."
