Eli's a Montana guy, as is his family

Gillman was offered way more than $300,000 a year ago, by several schools. And he wasn't even in the Portal. While your questions are relevant, questions of how to best get to the NFL without getting beat up too much in college, along with how to best get a higher draft selection are other important considerations. And, is it easier to make the Senior Bowl as the featured back at UM, or as a one of the backs at a much bigger school? While I don't know, I wonder if the stat about average rb length in NFL is misleading. Just something I have thought of. Does the number get skewed down for some reason.
$300,000 is an average for all power 4 running backs so not specific to Gillman. The average career length includes all NFL players including undrafted players you barely hear about. The number would get skewed up if it was only notable or highly drafted players.

In my opinion, if Eli can get $300k or more, he should take it. That's is life changing amount of money and if properly invested at his current age, will be 10's of millions in 30 plus years if left invested.

Yes $300k is life changing money for most people but his first NFL contract that he is on pace to get by staying at UM will be more than 3x that annually. Transferring could increase his draft stock but I think there is a far greater chance he will become part of a running back committee which will make him not get invited to the Senior Bowl and tank his NFL prospects. Eddie George knows what he is talking about with this stuff. He played running back in the Big 10 and NFL.

He was offered more than double that last season and didn't take it. While I don't know, he might be getting close to that at UM with basic NIL from the school and the extra stuff from car dealerships and selling his own gear.

At the risk of sounding like hoops, I was curious so I called a friend who is a BLESTO scout. He said IF Eli is an NFL caliber talent that clearly the best way to prove it would be to get to the highest level that he can compete. His speed index, strength and durability can be evaluated much more accurately vs. the best college talent in the country vs FCS talent. As far as playing in a rotation at Indiana or any top-level FBS team...if he can't clearly be the most productive RB on their roster his chances of playing in the Senior Bowl and/or securing a roster spot in the league are doubtful.
It all made sense to me.

Pretty much he is risking losing out on a Senior Bowl invite and NFL career if he can’t be the most productive rb on their roster but it would help his NFL career if he is a top running back in the Big 10. It would raise his ceiling and lower his floor to transfer in regards to playing in the NFL. If he stays at UM under the same trajectory he has been on, he will get an NFL opportunity which he cannot guarantee with transferring.

And Eddie George, the coach, disagrees with you and the Blesto scout, whatever that is.

BLESTO is a group that started as a talent scouting partnership between the Bears, Lions, Eagles, and Steelers. They provide early scouting for NFL teams on upcoming underclassmen, build scouting profiles, and add measurables. It is now its own standalone organization, I think, but may still be controlled by those teams. Regardless, many teams now subscribe to them.

What they are not, however, is involved in the actual draft rooms of NFL teams. I'd take Eddie George's advice over theirs on how a player should structure their college career to make the NFL. I am sure that scout is thinking from his perspective about how it would be easier to evaluate Eli against that level of competition, but that is not the same as whether Eli is more likely to get drafter in the first three rounds vs if he went up to a P5 school.

I can see him showcasing against oregon state next year. If he outruns them, overpowers them, scores 3 TD against them, then he can compete. Now are they Indiana? No. Truly Eli, if would be RB1 at Indiana, can rush for 1000 yards with those studs up front (or any other "good" P4 school for that matter). He has the skillset.

The only thing that sucks is if he doesn’t, that’s kindve his one big opportunity to show off against his adjacent talent level

i dunno, but if i was him and aimed for the nfl, i think i would stay the year at montana, and focus on getting a bit bigger/stronger, plus work on blocking and catching the ball, rather than gamble on a one-year, no spring practice deal in the fbs.

Thank you for explaining to our local football genius what BLESTO is…the longest tenured and most widely used professional scouting system that has been around since 1963.
To be clear…I’m not saying he’s right and I don’t have enough factual information to have an opinion as to what Eli should do but I thought some people on the site might appreciate a professional opinion on the topic.
I’m sure with the support of his family he will make a solid decision.

Hoops of course you can take the opinion of a guy who has coached for five years instead of a guy who played 13 NFL seasons, coached in the league for 16 years and now works for the oldest and most respected scouting service in the history of the NFL.
Makes perfect sense.

Are you saying your friend and his company doesn't know how to evaluate players not in FBS? What kind of organization or person can't evaluate below FBS. Who cares of if FBS competition makes it easier for him? Look at all the sub-FBS players who played for the Seahawks. There were a bunch of them.

Your friend is not in the NFL draft rooms. You probably asked the wrong question anyway. Or he's clueless like you and/or you just made up what you said or exaggerated. Your track record on egriz shows that no one should ever believe anything you say. And how many conversations have you had with the Gillman family and Eli? Just curious.

How does your buddy stack up against Eddie George? Did your buddy win the Heisman? Is his number retired at his NFL team and his college? Was your friend the NFL rookie of the year?

Jack I don’t blame you for being embarrassed because someone had to explain what BLESTO is. No one said my friend owned BLESTO. None of the information that you posted about George has anything to do with coaching, scouting or his ability to project NFL talent. He was clearly a better running back than my buddy who played multiple positions on the offensive line and coached in the league.
I was just trying to present an educated view that might be worth considering for people who use this site for something other than bragging about themselves. And I guess in your stupor you missed the part where I said that I’m sure with the help and support of his family Eli will make a good decision.
Get some rest and take care of yourself…it might help your diminishing capacity.

I am not embarrassed about anything. I asked a question. My friend answered it. I am not overly interested in the NFL. I watched the recent game about as much as I watched the halftime show.

Hey, you are the one who started dissing George and touting your “friend” over him. Why do think an OL guy would know more about a college RB getting to the NFL than a former Heisman and NFL RB? You were mainly trying to brag that you knew this guy. You probably lied anyway.

I know that the people who gather the info and put together the data for services are mostly low level low paid people. If they can’t evaluate a Justin Green or Lex Hilliard at the FCS level, then that’s is their problem.

I know what George told Gillman, because he, sitting next to his mom and family, told me. I have known his mom since he first came to UM. Your dumb comment about Gillman and his family added nothing.

Does it make you feel better about your lacking self to use my name? I find that odd. What kind of person does that on a message board?

My capacity is still excellent especially on what I discuss on this board. I read or skim about 200 articles or sites a day, 7 days a week. I am writing 3 pieces now, one a short history of world civilizations, for my older grandchildren, teens. One a compact family history. I have listened to 15 or so books on world history, most 2 or 4 times. Some are 25 hours in regular time. 30 longer tapes, some 3 times. Some podcasts. I have lots of time aqua-jogging about 25 hours per week.

You need to change or improve your lacking personality and learn something about football. As I have said, most everything you post is suspect. You should be embarrassed by your weak posts.

So you’re saying you don’t use egriz as a platform to constantly brag about yourself.
Got it.
