NDSU is gone

Did you win conference freshman of the year and conference offensive player of the year 2x in college? Kaepernick did and was a way better football player then you.
Why don't you lay off on Kem. Your post is stupid. Could stick to googling and providing information and stop with the going after other posters?

I have said this before. I don't have a problem staying in FCS or moving up to the FBS. Both have good and bad. FCS we have a real shot winning the natty, but our competition is getting worse and worse. Half of our regular season schedule are d2 teams that moved up the last years. S. Utah, Utah tech, Portland St, N. Co. This is not a satisfactory schedule. Now we are losing NDSU and soon more teams to the FBS. Sadly we will never play those teams again. Montana does not play g6 teams because they can't pay us what we make for a home game. Plus FBS can't come here and play us anymore. So are we really D1 if FBS can't schedule a home and home with FCS.
To me it comes down to do want a regular season with 12 games that is our peers and if we win the conference we could get into CFP. Don't say it is impossible James Madison did it this year. MWC with the Dakota and Montanas would better then sunbelt, Mac, conference USA, and could challenge pac and American for a spot for the playoffs specifically if they go to 16 or 24 teams.
Or we can stay and play a less funded, no fan base, high school stadium, watered down schedule. Then the real season begins in the playoffs. With only really 3 or 4 teams really on par with us. As far as funding, facilities, and traditions, There will Cinderella teams like Ill.st. but the championship game is 95% will be montana and st, hopefully south Dakota doesn't leave and hopefully Tarleton st. (Which is d2 transplant) all stay.
What sounds more exciting to watch.

I wish we could do home and home with fbs then regular season games can be exciting plus the playoffs. But we can't. We have to choose. Do we want have a schedule with peer schools and slim shot to make the playoffs. The playoffs would be conference schedule. We would need to win at least 10 games to have a shot at CFP. Or do we want to play a meh regular season schedule that we should easily win 95% of the games and hopefully we play some good teams in the playoffs. Remember there is only a small handful of teams that really win the natty anymore. Just like CFP.
What is your choice? Move up/move forward and face challenges head on and might stumble a few times or stay were we are and feel safe and not move forward and keep competing for a championship that we should be in finals 4 every f'n year but have the chance rot within.
Staying put is not moving forward, it is very slow decline to average.

They are reported to be moving up this year. 2026. If they agree before June 1st. That is what I have read. They haven't finalized there 2026 schedule yet.

You do realize that all the Dakota schools including NDSU are fairly recent D2 move ups and UM and MSU themselves were in D2 many years ago?

Are you going to the game September 19? It is an away game in Corvallis Oregon against Oregon State.

You are correct about Programs that have moved upto FCS from D2 in The Missouri Valley and Big Sky Conference since 2006. NDSu, SDSU, both UND and USD¹. Big Sky UCDavis, Cal Poly, N. Colorado, Utah Tech.

Most of the teams that have moved up have been good. One you are missing from before 2006 is Southern Utah who is the Griz week 0 opponent. They have won the Big Sky twice before.

Thanks. Forgot S. Utah. They have been good. I only went 20 years ago.

Harm, what’s to say there won’t be an observable slow death by moving up? I get your point and I am not trying to be an ass. I just don’t see the appeal of playing in the MW and never having a shot at the playoffs. It isn’t like anyone is dying to watch Air Force, Wyoming or UNLV on a national scale. Yes, some of their fans will travel. Great. Yes, the competition is better. Great. So you take you causal Griz fans and tell them the team goes 8-4 or worse most seasons and there is no playoff or chance at a championship. You could go to the Cheetoh bowl though. Watch the stands start to go empty. NIL, nothing changes except the Griz and Cats need more money to go after players. Watch the energy drain from the programs. Also, man the money loss for Missoula without playoff games being in the mix. Big hit for businesses. Great! Griz are FBS! What is the actual benefit other than hypothetical dollars that nobody can seem to show. By the way, for everyone saying Haslam wants to move up and that the Griz eventually will. Of course he is going to say that. It’s in his own best interest. Think about it. The dude already interviewed and applied for FBS jobs. More money for him. More experience and prestige. Better future job opportunities. Of course he is in favor of moving up. I don’t blame him one bit btw. Anyone in his position would to the same thing.
I don’t think ur being an ass at all. Solid points, and I can see your side as well. As far as play-offs, I do see another tier of playoffs on the horizon, more $$ will always drive corporate decisions, and there’s a lot more $$ to be made having an additional playoff division from the the ridiculously rich P4 programs who’ll most likely split off from the NCAA, and go their own way. Greed is good, Gordon Gecko was exactly right, just a bit ahead of his time.

So you can take it as the big sky isn't that much of a jump from d2 if s. Utah can win a conference championship. That being said that was when the the U was at its lowest point and 20 years. Lots of schools have jumped past us in the last 15 years. Liberty, so Georgia, coastal Carolina, Missouri St, Texas st, north Texas, Delaware, sam Houston, James Madison, app st, and now most likely ndsu, and sdsu and cal Davis and sac St and tarelton st. Who is left for us to play outside the Missouri and sad big sky. Outside those conferences. I am hard pressed to name good programs that have been good for years. Maybe a couple from A10. But they are not consistently good either.

New D2 programs could move up and become dominant. CSU Pueblo probably has the best chance of teams in the RMAC which is the D2 conference I am familiar with. Central Washington seems like they could potentially be successful in the Big Sky.

I wish we could schedule g6 teams for out of conference schedule with home and home agreement. It would be nice to play Boise st, or Nevada, Colorado St at home one year then play them there the next. It would be great games to get excited for but still be fcs but that won't happen. Sad but true. They don't want to take a chance to lose to a fcs team even though everyone knows we are just a good as they are. But it hurts their conference losing to a quote d2 school. That is what fbs thinks fcs is

What benefit does an FBS team get from scheduling home and homes with FCS? You can only have 1 FCS win count toward bowl eligibility hence why FBS teams will schedule 1 FCS opponent at home per year.

They only schedule one because of what you said. We can schedule 2 fbs games one at home and 1 away. Say Colorado st home and Oregon St away. Fcs doesn't stop you from doing that. But I don't want to play 2 fbs teams away from home. That would be bad from money because they can't pay us what we make for a home game plus it would be nice to have better home schedule instead of playing 2 or 3 former d2 schools out of conference.

Why would Colorado State schedule Montana on the road as their FCS game when they can schedule Northern Colorado for example at home every season?
