NDSU to MWC

Ok, but if we both moved up would viewership be consistent during regular season games outside of Montana folks? I may be wrong, but most folks are tuning into their respective teams. If we were on TV at the same time as bigger programs are people watching? Maybe I'm too pessimistic....
we already are on TV at the same time as the bigger programs.

Are we sure? Why would the existing teams want to split their pot of money even further? Look at the P4 right now. They're certainly not welcoming new teams with open arms.
Because we can get them even more money. Have you seen our TV ratings? If they add the Montanas, their next media rights package could be even more.

Cool. I’m talking about college football. There is the top division, and then a group of lower divisions that, in the minds of the vast majority, have distinction without difference.
This, I think, is something that those of us living out of state see far more clearly. Many -- not all, many -- people living outside of the great state believe Montana is DII. Hell, a sports radio station here in Seattle interviewed BH after the win over the huskies and they refered to Montana as a DII team multiple times. If a sports radio station doesn't get it....

We sell 19000 season tickets and have one of the most rabid fanbases in America. I think we'd be fine.

Here's what AI says.

Yes, TV markets are crucial for football teams moving to FBS, as larger markets can attract more lucrative media rights deals, which significantly influence conference realignment decisions. The potential revenue from these markets often outweighs travel costs, making it financially viable for teams to join conferences that may be geographically distant.

Importance of TV Markets in FBS Movement

Revenue Generation

  • TV markets significantly influence the financial viability of football programs.
  • Larger markets attract more viewers, leading to higher media rights deals.
  • Schools in prominent markets can negotiate better contracts, enhancing their revenue.

Conference Realignment

  • Teams often switch conferences to align with those that have lucrative TV deals.
  • The size of the TV market can determine a conference's attractiveness to potential members.
  • For example, the Big Ten and SEC have expanded to include teams from major markets to maximize their media revenue.

Travel Costs vs. Media Revenue

  • Historically, travel costs were a concern for conference alignment.
  • Now, the revenue from media rights often outweighs travel expenses.
  • Schools are willing to incur higher travel costs if it means joining a conference with better TV deals.

Conclusion

TV markets play a crucial role in a football team's decision to move to the FBS level. The potential for increased revenue from media rights is a primary motivator for teams seeking to elevate their status within college football.

I notice Cooper Kupp will be in the SB tomorrow. It was fun watching him both here and in Cheney. I wonder if anybody from Laramie will be playing tomorow.

Dude, this would make a great clickbait article on a Wyoming fan site: Should Wyoming drop down to FCS so we can have more former WRs play in Super Bowls?

It was fun watching Kupp here in 2015, the rest of the years not so much but it has been cool to follow his NFL career.

I noticed Josh Allen was the 2024-25 NFL MVP. No point to this really, other than to highlight how inane your post was.

Idaho is not a cautionary tale against moving to the FBS. It is a cautionary tale against being in the FBS, not cultivating relationships with your conference peers, not investing meaningfully in athletics to compete, and then being left behind in geographically unwieldy and noncompetitive conferences. You gotta look at all of the circumstances, not just one.
But Sam Houston sure is
