Instant Reactions - Kennedy Presser

My only concern is I think Haslam should have signed him to a 3 yr contract, especially for retention of existing players and recuiting esprcially high-school kids but also portal transfer players so that we don't have opposing coaches 🤔 telling kids we're recruiting, " But who's your coach next year, Johnny ? "
Just another way to say interim without saying interim.

Loved his energy and enthusiasm. Very opposite of Bobby in a lot of ways(good, bad, or indifferent). Liked that he wants to be player driven, but assume that doesn’t mean walked all over. Seems to want to be out there and be the face and have the program to have a presence.

I didn’t like his use of the word ok 5 million times. Maybe get him hooked up with a public speaking prof and polish that up
Just a bit?

I don’t know how much better we could have done at this juncture. If we retain most of the roster and keep what could be an explosive offense in place and some of the key pieces on defense then it has to be considered a huge win. I’ll feel better about breathing in 19 days.

IDK if Bobby Hauck was in the room or not but if he was then I can understand the hesitancy to not wanna publicly say what he's changing. Especially if he's still living with him lol.
My first thought as well. I didn't expect him to stand up there and publicly state all the changes he is going to make. Haven't any of you ever been in a corporate culture where a new manager comes in or maybe your company gets bought out? The first thing they say is they're not going to change anything. And then they eventually change everything.

My honest opinion is that if nothing changes in staff or scheme, then nothing will change in results either. However, there's a lot of time left between now and fall camp. We might even begin to see changes as early as spring ball. Let's wait and see.

The top of the staff has changed, recruiting philosophy is changing and how strength and conditioning is managed is also changing. Those 3 all seem pretty significant to me even if no further changes of staff or scheme are made.

There is zero chance a new HC comes in at this level and makes no changes. Some will be for the better and some maybe not... time will tell. I am excited to have BK on board and am really looking forward to spring ball!

How is the recruiting philosophy changing?

I think it says a lot about Hauck's character & of course, his wife's that they welcomed BK to live in their basement for 8 months, but now that he is named HC, he finds a place of his own, right? And, since he didn't find a place of his own previously, does it mean he didn't plan on staying with the Griz long or was it BH's plan all along to retire and hand the reigns to BK?

BK said that his staff will be in every high school in Montana recruiting and they will make it a priority for the core of the team to be high school players from Montana.
Bobby had the same philosophy. What is the strategy to flipping MSU recruits to UM?

Sure, but I was thinking more in the way of defensive staff changes. I'm not sold that Roger Cooper is the best DC we can find. But maybe his hands were tied by Bobby and we'll see some different things out of him in time. However, if he stays on AND we keep the 3-3-5, then I don't think much changes. But we'll see.

Disagree they had the same philosophy.

Kids these days want to feel wanted….important….needed. MSU has done a better job of that with personal visits from Vigen and others and blowing up social media with it (kids love that stuff).

Bobby and company have fallen short there. In fact, it was Bob’s thought that some of these kids should be lucky and fortunate to be a Griz. I don’t think he made them feel important or wanted more like they would be fortunate to come to Missoula. That is a huge difference.

If you listen to some of the interviews or articles with Adam Jones, that will give you a good feel for what I’m referencing.

I'm ok with a change in the defense going away from the 3-3-5. My question for all of you is, is it to late to make a change in scheme after the portal and recruiting is finished? I guess I'm asking do we have the players in place to change to a 4-3 or another defense? Are there tweaks that can make the 3-3-5 work?
As far as Cooper I don't know enough to judge his abilities, however since a cat grad became DC Griz have not beat his former team! I kid I kid not a fan of two DC's it is like rotating QBs and centers lol!

ha, hauck wants him to continue to live there so that he can control griz football thru his basement dweller, without having to do the scutwork. it all makes sense now.

That’s a good question truthfully. We recruited for the 3-3-5 so as much as I hate it we have the players for it. IMO in order to move to a true 4 man front we would need to add a couple more 285lb+ guys and right now we have a roster full of 250lb guys (avg)
No one in the free world is running the 4-3. If we change it will be to the 4-2-5.

No one in modern college football is running the 4-3. It is still used in high school and the NFL.
