MBBALL Big Sky Progress Feb (2,5,7)

I debated about doing this again this week. Then I noticed how many games are scheduled: two on Monday, four on Thursday, and five on Saturday. Everybody plays at least two games (normal) and two play three. It all opens up the possibility for some big swings in the standings.

Among other points of interest, four teams have two games each on the road. On paper, at least, Idaho has the toughest stretch as they must visit both Montana schools. Conversely Sac State gets a chance to extend its winning streak with two games at home. Of course, one of those is against Portland State, so we’ll see.

Portland State (8-1) … ISU … @ Sac State
Montana State (7-3) … Idaho … EWU
Montana (7-3) … EWU … Idaho
Idaho (5-4) … @ MSU … @ UM
Weber State (5-4) … @ Sac State … NoCol … NAU
Sac State (4-5) … WSU … PSU
E Washington (3-6) … @ UM … @ MSU
Idaho State (3-6) … @ PSU … NAU … NoCol
No Colorado (3-7) … @ WSU … @ ISU
No Arizona (2-8) … @ ISU … @ WSU

Two games tonight, both starting at 8 o’clock. I don’t see much drama with ISU in Portland (although an upset there would be really cool). But if Sac State could manage another home win, both teams would end up 5-5 in conference, and that would be really interesting. Weber has been up and down, so I see a pretty good chance for a win by the Hornies.

Weber State (5-4) @ Sac State (4-5)
Idaho State (3-6) @ PSU (8-1)

Weber is also down 2 starter/rotation players, as we were against ISU. Not an excuse, just that most teams have to work through that sort of thing this time of year. It's what makes depth so important. Sac seems to be two totally different teams at home and on the road. Their guard line is a load to handle. We beat them at our place, but we had a full compliment of players then. Hopefully we have everybody back for Boise.

Weber down badly (53-32) at half time. Bengals down double-digits (41-28) with a couple min left in half.

Well no luck for ISU tonight. Portland State plays at Sac State on Saturday. With the way Sac has been playing at home lately, I’d say the odds of them doing us a favor are good.

We sped the game up in the second half, hoping they would cool off. We came back a little, but they never cooled off. If we meet them in Boise, we will need to play much better D.

The Bengals have shown they can put on some really hot scoring spurts, even in some of their losses.

Northern Arizona (2-8) @ ISU (3-7)

It's nice to know that YOU sped the game up after we scored 53 on YOU in the first half....thanks for speeding us up...

Just for your info, we are down 2 players also, one of them, Bear Cherry, was our best player before being injured (15 pts and 8 rbs from the center position) and Brandon Gardner who was another big we could really use right now....BTW, your own fanboard is looking for you Olds....

So did Bear going down elevate everyone elses play? Hornets have been shooting soo well lately has their ball movement improved or just shooting better.

Both....ball movement, player movement, shooting and passing are much better but I really think it all started with our pressure defense being effective...Whatever it was, I'll take it...

Your question got me to look back at stats and try to decipher the reasons...I found that in our BSC games, 50 assists and 53 TOs in our 5 losses, 90 assists and 50 TOs in our 5 wins....The assists jump off the board....it looks like this team may have finally figured out how to trust their teammates and share the ball...I believe this has led to better shots which has led to better shooting percentages...Thats basically what my first impression was but the stats sort of prove it out....Just play good, sound basketball for short...
