Soccer Citowicki leaving for Wazzu?

As still a potential Griz mom, what kind of head games are we talking about? After all J is still there, my daughter was just emailing with him, and usually they coach similar to the way their head coaches have.

I just think the term “head games” can mean so many different things and sometimes it isn’t accurate in my summation. 🤷🏼‍♀️ (some times is right on of course)

I had a niece who played basketball for a d1 school and I was told for years that her head and associate coach were always “playing head games with her”. It was sad to hear and I believed it but didn’t get specifics.

They played a school near us and we met my brother and his family to watch. When she got minutes her effort level didn’t seem as high as the other girls and she didn’t seem as fit. And she made obvious errors with passing etc.

A couple weeks later, I asked my brother and sister in law what the coach specifically says that are “playing head games”.

Apparently, he would say things like “keep working hard at practice” and “we’re seeing improvements in XYZ” when she’d go in to talk about playing time. She’d just get generic stuff like that. To me that isn’t head games… that’s trying to motivate and encourage yet not being unrealistic promising time, etc.

The few girls that play above her have stats to back why they are playing. And yes their stats are able to be better because they get more time. If if you figure out their stats per minute play it still shows why my niece isn’t playing much because she isn’t very effective.

Coaches aren’t going to say to kids “you’re a practice player.” But it’s a thing. We all know it. But she’s obviously a “practice player” where she is and if she transferred there’s a chance she’d move up on the totem pole based on the other teams roster. My brother sadly would see this as justification that her old coach was wrong… cause he, like many parents, can’t objectively recognize his daughter’s skill level isn’t as good as some others. IMO, he should just be proud of her and her journey cause most don’t even make it to that level.

I heard the South Dakota State assistant was zoomed last week, but that's it.

It’s the constant gas lighting. Let’s be honest it was his team. He owned the lineup. He was winning. I wouldn’t expect him to make to many changes but it was the constant gaslighting that was the issue. Even when he would talk to us after games and at restaurants.

She had advocates in the program. Both J and Ash had her back and tried to get him to play her. In games Ash would tell him to put her in when some if the othered were struggling.

In meetings with her he would tell her she is not aggressive enough. When u see the practice film she was doing a great job and was very aggressive. Ash giving her chest bumps after great assists and goals. It was an easy out for him to gaslight her and cut her. She does not do a great job advocating for herself and that is probably what held her back.

I don’t feel that J is the same way. In fact had she know what was going to go down she probably would have come back. She was asked to but had already committed to another program. The program will be in better shape without him.

They do need to make improvements. The facilities are probably the worst in the big sky. Way worse than any program she visited.

J is a good dude. I would trust my kid with him.

This is 100% true. I’m someone who is very close to this situation. The search continues and there will be someone on campus next week. The administration is working diligently to make the right hire. While I agree that it’s taking entirely too long and they don’t seem to have the same sense of urgency as some of us. I do believe however, that they absolutely have the best interest of the soccer program in mind. I think that they are in a difficult situation as well, meaning lack of finances and resources to offer a new coach, which is really sad after the success of this program. Bottom line, the athletic department needs to figure out how to fix this and quickly. They are being very transparent and honest with those of us that are asking questions. Unfortunately, I just think they’re completely looking at this without much consideration of the current players.

What gets lost in all of this is that these aren’t just roster spots or scholarships they are real young women with lives, routines, academic plans, and athletic careers that are being directly impacted.
Right now, they’re in limbo. They don’t know who their coach will be, what the system will be, whether their roles will change, or even what the long-term direction of the program is. That kind of uncertainty is extremely stressful, especially for student-athletes who already live on tight schedules and high pressure. At this point this University is in jeopardy of losing the remaining players to the portal in May causing unprecedented

Stop it, your as close to the situation as the rest of us are, merely guessing.

Ok then why did he interview if he's not leaving?
You don't turn down HC coaching interviews, just like Cavallo supposedly got a nice pay raise to stay, a good AD and athletic dept know the value on keeping a coaching staff together for long term success and on economics. How much time and money have AD spent on interviewing compared with just hiring your top candidate.

The renderings are nice. Who’s in charge of NIL/fundraising for soccer. We can have the Mecca for soccer.
Fundraising falls to the HC, he will sometimes delegate his Asst Coach.
There are different ways to donate too, any person can donate directly to a program if the soccer team isn’t doing a fundraising campaign.
