The eternal little brother

You misspelled your own mascot. Are you rattled today? I kid i kid. I'm never one to bring up misspelling. But I couldn't resist when it was the word grizzly. Lol
Are you going to race over to Circle Jerk Nation to let the inbreds know?

Gris is getting a little old....4 or 5 years of "bringing it up?"

You got it. Perseverating on this is childish. Allowing it to get to you is childish. They're teasing you. You claim to be the adult in the equation. You have the fully formed and functioning frontal lobe. Use it.
Again, it doesn't upset me at all, not one bit. That just comes with being the big brother for sooooo long. That doesn't mean i cant still find it silly and comment how silly an action it is. Generally, as an adult, its just being polite to let a child know their actions might be embarrassing for them. Of course most children don't care though and will still find the humor. Do you guys fart on each other too or do you limit your child like behaviors?

Them beating us a few times has nothing to do with the term "little brother". Its the fact that no matter how successful they become, they immediately think of us. They can't escape it, and their behavior shows that it isn't getting better any time soon.
I have told this story before. I work for a big company and every now and then, we get people from Montana who come out to the main site (Corporate). I always try to introduce myself and see if I can help in any way while out.

Found out two guys from Montana were going to be at the same two day meeting I was attending. I walked up to them, introduced myself, let them know the small Montana town I was from and said, "go Griz". Both of them immediately went into the chant.

That is little brother energy to a T.

The big difference between the schools is that we act like we've been successful before while MSU acts like it never has. Hopefully this championship will help assuage the butt hurt they feel.

If it didn't bother griz fans, this wouldn't be a thread with two pages of posts.....

Why does every poll on here have ftc as an option? Oh, but you focus on the chant and sure, its not the whole stadium doing it. But its expected here, every day of every poll. And to be clear I have no issue with it. But we're rivals. Its part of the lore and fun. Listen to Dixieland delight at an Alabama game, no matter who they play.
That would be an invalid pole.

The correct option is "bobcats suck".

Cat fans need to learn the difference between jealousy and second hand embarrassment. What the Griz fans feel for them is absolutely the latter. 100% of the time.

"Secondhand embarrassment (or vicarious embarrassment) is feeling embarrassed for someone else when they do or say something awkward, clumsy, or socially inappropriate, even if you don't know them. It's a strong empathetic reaction where you experience their potential shame or discomfort as if it were your own, often triggered by cringeworthy situations in real life or on TV, and can make you feel anxious or want to "fix" the situation."

this is it. I was literally cringing in second hand embarrassment hearing cat fans chanting about the griz when they reached the pinnacle of accomplishments in their program. they think it "gets" to us - that is not the case. it's like when you see a guy dance at a wedding, and he's absolutely terrible and making an ass of himself, but he thinks he's really good and just keeps doing it. same energy

EXACTLY!!! And the person who should feel embarrassed never does because they just don't get it. This is the same.

You can't feel embarrassed for someone just like you can't appologize for how they feel. The whole "I'm sorry you feel that way" is a bad statement. It should be "I'm sorry I made you feel that way". But that takes ownership of the situation which people aren't willing to do.

That said, I'm sorry you feel this way.... 😆

I kid. 😉

The chant is embarrassing, but so is calling them "little brother" in 2026 when they're about to destroy us for another decade
Quarters, Quarters, 2nd round, Championship, 2nd Round, Semi Final.
That doesnt look like the track record of a dying program. Its not good enough but its pretty fucking good

We're still in Tennesee. Have been in Nashville for 4 days. Went to the game last night in Bobcat gear to cheer for a Montana team. Bobcat fans showed an amazing lack of class. "Eat shit Grizzlies go Cats go" was the common cheer during the game. Some changed Grizzlies to Redbirds. Almost every bar had fans singing the same thing and yelling FTG. They were an embarrassment for the whole state.
I was in Tennessee too. Heard Mony Mony 1-time on United before takeoff and 1-time the Bar Stool in Nashville. At the game it was sung at the end of the game, but only with Grizzlies, not Redbirds. It was all in lighthearted fun so don't take it too seriously. We still love our Griz family and friends, especially now when you need a hug more than ever.

DBM, I have a ton of respect for your opinions although I obviously don't know you fwiw. My mother in-law once advised me that since I'm not catholic, I couldn't take communion in the catholic church - for my own good & salvation. That was the end of my religious period. I'm feeling 3rd hand embarrassment for all y'all who get your knickers in a twist over Mony Mony, particularly because of bad language. Would you feel better if they chanted 'eat feces' instead of eat sh!t? Honestly, you all sound like Cat fans towards the end of the streak. I didn't debate Her Righteousness or tell her she was full of, well you know what, I simply stopped going to her church & moved on. Oh my my, oh hell yes I'm so much better for it. Mony Mony isn't going away, so maybe how you react to it is your salavation? Sorry for preaching!

Charles R. Swindoll once said... "Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it." CAT fans are just having some harmless fun. When the Griz win, there's always countless posts about the "Trail of Tears" and more. It's a part of the game and rivalry that goes back over 100 years. The more you show that it bothers you, the more you will hear it. Only you can choose how you will react.

Were you on the charter from Bozeman? I saw videos of it playing before takeoff on that flight.

There's like 4 programs left in FCS that truly care and try every year, and 3 of them have a championship in recent memory. And two of them will be the odds-on favorites every every year going forward.

Making it to the second round or further (because there's so few programs standing in our way), while also losing every home game to the Cats and every away game to them by 20+ are all things that can consistently happen.

Well you certainly have the right to your opinion but since you're a cat fan defending other cat fans to Griz fans on our own board, I give it zero credence. Thank you and have a good day.

I personally am coming from a place where my kids are Cat fans and I don't want it normalized that that is how you behave at games, towards anyone, much less me. And it's also aimed mostly at the "f#ck the Grizzlies" part of the song. Like in what other part of life would we encourage that in our kids?

Similar to how when we're playing sports they're allowed to spike the ball or celebrate with their friends, and be emotional out there. But they're not allowed to do the Tyreek piece sign, or the "too small", or mouth off to the other team, or any of that kind of stuff. And with some of their teammates that's a constant battle, which I'm not happy about.

But I'm also perfectly aware that all this griping about the song is 1) only going to encourage it to happen even harder, 2) coping, and 3) probably going to be boomeranged back at Cat fans in some kind of similar manner when the tables are turned a million years from now
