UP WITH MONTANA by Colin Dow

As a proud Griz, I’ve been asked a couple times who I’m rooting for in tonight’s National Championship.
Admittedly, it grind my gears to see our rival in a game that we aren’t. And as much as I think the “mony mony” song Is pretty classless, I can’t say I wouldn’t be tempted if the roles were reversed.
👀
🤷‍♂️

That said, I’m a Montana boy as much as I’m a Griz.
If I saw someone wearing a MsU baseball cap in the Shanghai airport, you can bet your a$$ I’d go shake their hand and say hi…because at the end of the day, there aren’t that many of us and we’ve got a lot more in common than a rivalry that divides us.
So I can’t figure why it would make sense to root against a kid who:
-stood in the same line at Big Dipper Ice Cream in Missoula on a hot summer day… just like I used to.
- knows the same pain of a 5-7 hour bus ride along I-90 for a high school game. Heck, they probably even stopped at Wheat Montana in Three Forks just like I did.
- spent his summers on the same lakes and trails, and winters on the same ski hills (though Big Sky was way too rich for my blood)
I can’t root against Montana kids just because I wish they were wearing maroon and silver.
So while I still can’t say Go c@+s, I CAN say…
UP WITH MONTANA BOYS!
Show those red birds what it means to be from Big Sky country.

Classy post by an all time great! Especially the Big Sky vs Missouri Valley aspect of the argument. That said, sorry, I just can’t do it. Plus I really liked Coach Niekamp when he was Special Teams coordinator and LB coach for the Griz. He had two boys that now play for him that stood in that same Big Dipper line. Gotta flip the (Red) Bird to Bozeman.

Appreciate what you’re saying, especially since it’s coming from you. And not so long ago I would’ve been right there with you. But the worst fans in the FCS if not the world cured me of ever rooting for their team. Even as a native Montanan who in everything but this is Montana first, Montana always…
Go Redbirds.

This times 100x. I'll never forget when they put up the go Villanova billboard in blowsman.

If he really cared about this part, "Admittedly, it grind my gears to see our rival in a game that we aren’t." then he would use his influence to change it.

Should he bitch on social media and a podcast? Is that using his influence? Or is being a good citizen and an example of what Griz players can become more effective? The only thing that people that bitch and moan do is attract more people that like to bitch and moan.

On the noon news, the reporter interviewed a middle-aged MSU fan all decked out in blue and gold in Nashville and as a set-up to the piece, MTN ( KTVQ and KPAX ) played the ancient Billy Idol video from 1981 and then cut to the MSU fan who sang a few words, " Mony, mony," and he had to restrain himself from singing the " Eat S___t GRIZ, " chorus so he told the reporter he couldn't repeat the rest on TV.

I am @ work right now @ the youth service's center in Billings, and the director laughingly told me that he had been on the jail side but almost none of our incarcerated kids were cheering for MSU because of me. And one of my good friends here at work is a big Bobcat wearing his blue and gold l, and he was somewhat hurt when I told him I thought MSU would win, but I am pulling for The ISU Red Birds. I like my friend, I have a MSU friend that was in my wedding and me in his, and I have relatives that graduated from MSU.

I like/love them all yesterday, today, and tomorrow, but I hate the Bobcats. !!!

Go Red Birds !!!
