The Portal, the Tranfers, NIL, and maintaining sanity

The player is the one burning the bridge. Perhaps as things evolve, this will change. For the big guys, some come to the coaches before going the Portal with what they are being offered. If the coaches say No, then the players is Ito the portal. The Griz can't match with big schools are paying.

Again, my view is that the Portal/NIL has not created more starting slots. If you want money to sit on the bench, go for it. If you want to play, come to UM or somewhere you can play. It takes more work to get to this result. More recruiting, discussion and evaluation. Some players are going to think they are better than they are. Go for it. But guys on FBS teams who aren't starting now, should be looking to go to FCS schools or where they can play. Unless they want to sit on the bench for $100,000.

I think I feel bad for the guys who depart, inlcuding from UM, who doh't play at all or much at their new FBS school. Perhaps they will learn from their bad decisions. Perhaps they will keep making bad decisions their whole life.

Question: do the coaches not have a problem with a player (who HASN’T entered the portal) already having OFFERS? Why wouldn’t the coaches do what Lanning did last year and call out the teams/coaches doing that shit?

Like I said. It’s a whole new world. Loyalty is so pre-transfer portal. Other pro leagues have players explore free agency and then some return to their team. I believe today's college player isn't going to fault a teammate for looking at options.
Contracted players explore free agency when their contract is done if they can’t come to terms with their current team. This is the Wild West. There is no contracts. No way to keep people committed for any specified amount of time except the current year. Either these players will all eventually become employees and contracted or there will have to be an antitrust exemption.

Either way it’s going to end up looking like some type of minor league or farm system.

I don't see the first 2 happening. Yes, on 3.

It’s called Loyalty! Something important for anyone aspiring to be a man or leader! Unless you think money is more valuable than learning how to be a Warrior…
loyalty? College football is big business, there is very little if any loyalty and thats just the way it is. Lane Kiffin, Nick Saban, heck you think Cignetti was loyal to JMU? He wasn’t. I wish there was more loyalty and agree it is a great leadership quality but to be super successful in business, unfortunately loyalty isn’t required it a nice to have. It’s the world we are living in and you can still learn to be a warrior while taking the money.
