The Season - Don't disrespect them, praise them

1. TD Rausch - "It's been the best time of my life," senior safety TJ Rausch said. "I love these guys. I love my coaches. I've had more fun this year than I've ever had playing football. I can't thank my coaches and my teammates enough for that."

He added: "I want to be remembered for a team that didn't quit ever. We're out there in the fourth quarter, game's over and we're still playing our butts off. There's no quit in those guys in our locker room. Like I said earlier, I love those guys to death. I just hope people remember what a great season we put together."

2. Wortham - "There was never no quit," Wortham said after the loss to the Cats. "We battled through a lot of things behind closed doors. I mean, shoot, this team is amazing. I just hope we're remembered for how hard we worked and how hard we came out there each and every day to play against whoever."

3. "I'm proud of our team," Hauck said. "I'm proud of my guys. We have quality, class young men in our program. They play football the right way. Our coaches coach them the right way. I'm as proud to be a head football coach as I've ever been today."

Total BS from Frank. What a worthless guy.

'The losses to their rival, the second of which prevented them from potentially winning their first national title since 2001, overshadowed everything Montana accomplished in what would otherwise be viewed as a historic campaign.'

Not true.

I agree 100%. It was a great season. Frank lacks a little when it comes to his reporting.

I've never had "rose colored glasses" for the program and I am very realistic about it. I am as disappointed as anyone about how the two Cat games played out, but I saw way too many positives this year to shit all over the coaches and kids about a 13-2 season. I appreciate all the work that went into last season and look forward to what the 2026 season will bring. Go Griz!

What the guys and Hauck said, and below, is what I will remember.

"Hauck becoming the all-time winningest Big Sky coach in conference games this past fall.

"Montana starting the season with an 11-0 or better record for the fourth time in program history, winning 13 or more games for the eighth time and increasing its win total by four games from 2024.

The Griz becoming the program's first team since 2009 to go undefeated on the road in the regular season.

Montana producing one of the program's most prolific offenses by setting school records for total points (615), total yards (6,855), total touchdowns (84) and pass completion percentage (68.9).

The defense intercepting 21 passes, the most since 2009.

the Griz finally finding a signal caller in sophomore Keali'i Ah Yat, who became their first All-Big Sky first-team quarterback in 21 years while throwing for 4,070 yards, the second most in a season in program history.

Running back Eli Gillman becoming Montana's seventh Big Sky offensive MVP and the first since quarterback John Edwards in 2002 as he ran for 1,540 yards, the third most in a season in program history, and 21 touchdowns, the fourth most in a Griz season, to help him climb to fourth in career rushing yards (3,677), third in career rushing touchdowns (49) and second in career total touchdowns (53).

Receiver/returner Michael Wortham breaking Marc Mariani's single-season all-purpose record from 2009 by putting up 2,431 yards in his lone season at UM while finishing second in a single season for receptions (85) and sixth for receiving yards (1,224) in his first year ever playing wide receiver.

Receiver Brooks Davis breaking Montana's freshman receiving record with 698 yards to beat Jon Talmage's record of 689 from 2002.

Drew Deck's 93-yard punt return touchdown, the longest in the history of the FCS playoffs.

Defeating three of the four Dakota schools or whipping Sacramento State after a war of words leading up to the game — especially as the latter is leaving the Big Sky Conference.

The revenge tour of earning wins over North Dakota, Weber State and South Dakota State because they failed twice at getting the ultimate, cathartic revenge against Montana State."

And Peck, Solo, Harper, Matai, Leonard, Detrick, Peck, Lawler, Huff. Morrison, Pibal, Rocker, Jensen, the OL, Rocker, Deck, Schafer, Bohanon, Gale, other seniors and the others.

You’re never gonna get anything positive out of Frank. Or any other Missoula media for that matter…

Nothing inaccurate in the article. Perhaps Bobby would have learned by now about picking fights with people who buy their ink by the truckloads.

It definitely doesn't overshadow everything that happened this year, but the main thing I will remember about this season years from now is that we lost to the cats twice. It's just the unfortunate reality.
Unfortunately, reality is that you just reinforced that the Cat losses will overshadow everything that happened this year.

Not true. I will always remember and be thankful we got to see the emergence of one of the best QBs I've seen in the time I've been able to watch the Griz. Just because the cat losses will be the main thing I remember doesn't mean they will be the only thing.

agree...I think this was a very talented team but will be remembered to the lost to
the Cats repeat...they were a very good but not good enough to make Griz history.
.its unfortunate but only winners are rewarded...Hauck will be the only Griz coach to
lose to Cats twice in one year...he could have sealed his legacy beating the Cats and
winning the NC.. victors are remembered.

We all been there if you played the game..
only winners are really remembered not how close games were played or how hard
you played..

With an outsiders perspective, there's a phrase that comes to mind..."catch more flies with honey than vinegar."

Not saying it's the right way for either side to go about things, but it is the reality.

One of the greatest travesty’s in sports it just looking at the final score at the end of the season. The Buffalo Bills lost 4 super bowls in a row and surface level fans want to clown them for losing without looking into what it took to get to the Super Bowl 4 seasons in a row and how that is such a great accomplishment.

That is just Frank’s opinion and not true or false, but having that opinion shows he has a low understanding of the game.

You're absolutely on point. When people keep dwelling on the 2 losses and keep making noise I'm sure thats making the players feel like their accomplishments have been diminished.

This is the healthy way to look at the season.

The team did not meet any of their football performance goals. In real life, you don't get praised for failing to meet expectations.

What I quoted is completely inaccurate. Most fans don't feel that way, even if they hate losing to the Cats. Only bad fans like Frank and you may feel that way. The whole premise of the article is wrong. Dead wrong.

The Missoulian and sister papers are/were about ready to go under. Just had a new investor come in with some money and control, and Missoulian management will or has changed. Missoulian can't even afford to buy ink. Maybe they will toss Frank too.
