Currently showing on ESPN: Georgia Southern vs Appalachian State at the Birmingham Bowl. GeoSo leads at the half, 13-7. Rooting for the Mountaineers, although I must say our only encounter with Eagles fans was cordial enough ... and they were respectful of the Griz effort and ability. Overall however, I'm for App State.

I remember in 1989 when Griz played down there and got beat up pretty bad and the Georgia Southern students were chanting "Big, white and slow..go back to the snow."

The pregame was held in an old train trestle across the street from the stadium. It was wild. The Montana band marched through the Georgia Southern fans--it didn't go over well. Montana wins that national title if Miller doesn't get injured.

Some would say JMU’s postseason game is what we would be aspiring for, not this one. It is debatable whether that is better or not. We already get that experience with our basketball team.

Some would say JMU’s postseason game is what we would be aspiring for, not this one. It is debatable whether that is better or not. We already get that experience with our basketball team.

We just got it with our football team too.

JMU had a great season. But their playoff game was embarrassing and not good for them or lesser FBS schools for a lot of people. Everybody assumed they would get clobbered and they did. And didn't deserve to be in the playoffs. I used to think the lesser schools who had great season should get a playoff chance, but my view has changed. Some of the Bobcat fans seem to think the Cats would have beaten them this year.

Remember when Boise State beat Adrian Peterson’s Oklahoma team in State Farm Stadium? I think teams from the group of 5 that had a great season should definitely get a chance. Upsets can happen even if it isn’t likely. I used to think for the FCS the teams from lesser conferences shouldn’t be in the playoffs but Yale this season changed my view on that.

The JMU scenario may not exist here in the next handful of years. And if by some chance it still does, we better get busy raising our student athletic fees by $1k.
