NIL Transparency

Does anyone know what a top qb in the portal currently like Dylan Raiola is approximately being offered?

Raiola’s football iq, arm strength, throwing mechanics and decision making skills related to reading coverage well and limiting turnovers are elite. He is not dual threat, not good at extending plays and has durability concerns. Raiola could excel in the right situation and fail in the wrong one.

I have no real problem with kids/young men getting what the dimwits funding big NIL deals are willing to pay. Do the sponsors really think they are getting their money's worth ... being able to tell their customers how they support the local team. Maybe so, but it doesn't seem like a good investment for a business. Of course, if you can afford it personally ... then it's just an ego thing.

I have another problem, with the bowl season in full swing. There seem to be a ridiculous number of players "opting out." Again, I have no serious problem with players who want to change teams (going in the portal) or wanting to prep for the draft. That's their right, and it makes sense. But if I'm an NIL donor, I'm going to feel short-changed. So ... does their NIL get cut if they opt out? It should be.

The problem is that we learned when you ban it or cap it, the boosters and organizations just pay it under the table illegally. I don't think there is any way to close Pandora's Box.

Probably correct but in my experience one of the very worst things you can do to something you love is to fully unregulate it and throw ridiculous amounts of money at it.
 
I'm still wrapping my head around how all of this works, but if a school "opted in," it's my understanding that the school can then directly pay athletes. And if an athlete is being paid directly by a public institution, I would imagine that money would be fair game for public records requests.

Maybe if it's coming from the school, but there are federal and state laws that apply too. And with NIL sources, there are contracts and confidentiality agreements. I'm not sure MT law even allows payment by university under the settlement, unless the law got changed in the last session.

He'll probably get that or more - but, I dont know.

I do think he is looking for a fresh start. His uncle was also fired from the coaching staff before his decision - perhaps that had something to do with it.

It’s technically supposed to go through a clearing house now for approval (which would be subject to public record), but as we have seen the NCAA couldn’t run a lemonade stand appropriately so….
 
I'll be the first to admit, I don't know how this NIL works. As far as the NIL for Griz players who are associated with the collective, can anyone please explain to me how it works. When I go on the website I see a bunch of players from different sports on the site. Do all the players share the money equally or can you just give to your favorite player? I was always curious on how it worked, but never took the time to do a deep dive. How much does a player like Eli Gillman make or players on the FCS level? I would love to hear any information anyone has on this.

Completely different amounts. I assume a big hitter can designate a recipient. Not sure how the Griz NIL works now that it is being brought in house.

Thanks Hoops! I've seen options where you can ask a player to send a small message to someone of your request like a Happy Birthday wish or you can request to work with one of the players on something. I think some of those things are great and would love to give to players on the team. It doesn't seem like they promote it a whole lot though. I had to search for it on my own. They should advertise it more.
