To Nick and Jack

Why we can't seem to find those big DT and NT that will help out the 3-3-5?

I am old enough to remember Alex and how he completely changed the 3-3-5

Is it that much easier to change to a 4-x-x and find bodies?
He’s not looking. As I’ve posted several times the 3-3-5 was developed by Rocky long because he supposedly could not find any big body d linemen that he could run a 4 man front with so he developed the 3-3-5 to use the kind of d linemen he had which were apparently all linebacker sized.

Joe Lee Dunn at New Mexico is actually the godfather of this nonsense. And maybe it was a good idea then, but it’s garbage

Gubs would’ve been good in any defensive scheme.

When boosters with money finally get sick of losing games like this they want answers. Andrew gives credible answers. They see Haucks attitude with the media and the way he treats them when they ask questions. They see that the best of the in-state players don't want to play for him. They see the priority of the coach is chasing flashy objects in the portal rather than investing in project in-state players.
I think it's a little bit of bad form for Andrew to claim he was right because the griz lost this game. The griz could have very well won this game but that doesn't change the facts about the direction of the griz program contrasted along side of the cats.
Hauck needs to change his attitude towards recruiting and that means making kids want to come and play for him. Any objecive outside observer comparing his actions to Vigen would choose Vigen every time. They know they have a chance to rise through the development ranks and eventually play in the next man up philosophy. Haucks team gets 60 new shinny objects a year and they try to fit the scheme to who they have currently attracted.
Lamson is a shiny object. He was the best player on the field both games.

Lamson had history with Vigen. Also they needed someone to fill the loss of Tommy Mellot. That is how the portal is supposed to be utilized.
The cats have absolutely dog walked the griz for the best in state freshman recruits in the last several years. That is going to pay huge dividends in the future. They have way more players developed within the program than the griz.

Pains me to agree, but this is accurate. I was heavily involved in the AA landscape over the last 16 years. The cats have been getting the best in state. We have been squabbling for scraps.

1. Time for staff to pick the best schemes to beat a Vigen team.
2. Make the tough calls on position/ coordinator jobs
3. Beg the Washington’s to help buy the best guys in the portal you can get this year. Without a huge investment in addition to what’s already in NIL account the likelihood of getting the guys in trenches to win in one year are slim to none.
4. Quit being a douche with media, you are not delivering on what you promised. Time to learn some humility This year only goal met will be graduation rate. No conference No natty and not one but two cat losses.
5. Haslam either get involved with the push for changes or go away. Be a man and stand up to Bobby
6 QB club quit sucking up and let him know shit needs changed. You really aren’t his buddy, quit falling for it. You are the only ones that can be an influence he doesn’t give a shit about normal fans.
7. If he can’t do these things it is time to retire or next year if comes up short he should be fired He should be officially on the clock to get it done or burn it all down and try a new staff completely. You know what they say about Continuing to do the same expecting different results

Either this or rename the champions center the Bobby Hauck Participation Center

So the altercation between Vigen and Davis after Vigen pulled Davis from his friend on the Yale football team would make every kid choose Vigen? That's twisted logic.

You were at least semi-logical until this ridiculous finish. 60??? Really? GTFO…

Gillman Bro’s, Fonoti, Jones, Ah Yat, Deck, Brown, Amick, Rousch, Gentry, Oven, Opitz, Detrick, Ramos, Wolfe, Davis, Finch, Gurnsey, Loud, Beaner Bro’s, Bridges, Huff, Boyd, Leonard, Botner, Templeton, Frietas, Schafer…all developed (now go ahead and question the development) and rose through the ranks eventually played in our system.

It’s not like every player is a mercenary.

The “we don’t dEvElOp” thing strikes me as yet another mantra that gets repeated enough times that people just believe it’s true when things don’t go the way they want. It’s kind of the same principle when the news media learns a new word and you hear it everywhere for a while.

Just going by how the recruiting has gone for the last few years. It's pretty easy to see the players that were recruited by both teams and where they've chosen to go.

The griz added ~60 new players to the roster last year. It's true that they weren't all from the portal. You can GFY too dude.

In my mind... The griz need to look at affordability, and price of groceries. You never really heard those terms before I just mentioned them in this post just now. They say "Sir, you are the only person in the history of egriz to ever talk about affordability, thank you". I don't know... Maybe I am.

They were undefeated and in the midst of their chase to a title when shmit and all his buddies were just unbearably negative. Up until a few hours ago they were in the midst at a run at a championship. What are you talking about ?
He talking about how you were wrong.

Undefeated in the BSC doesn't menace shit its a weka conference with one good team 2 average teams and 9 horrible teams.

If you really want to fix Montana football get rid of Hauck and DO NOT listen to guys like hoops and dick taber. They are fucking clueless and have no credibility.

As long as we have Bobby we are gonna get the same results every single year. We are not gonna win shit next year either so why watch.

It's NDSU again then a very big drop down to MSU and SDSU then another drop down to Montana.

Well UND was a playoff team and we beat them too..
I did thoroughly enjoy the ending of that game. That was a little cathartic after losing in 2024.

I think the big reason I don’t give a damn about the rest of the Big Sky schedule is I don’t think most of their fans are as invested in FCS ball as the Griz or Cats are. It’s not a matter of “we’re always better than them” because frankly we’re not. But If you’re a student or alum of Eastern Washington or Weber State, if the team loses, so what? You probably just fall back on UW or Utah or whoever else you grew up rooting for to numb the pain. Like us, Montana State fans, and fans of Dakota teams don’t have that either (I’m still wondering about Idaho). There is no “team you grew up rooting for” in the area and then you settle for the directional school. Those fans care like we care. That makes the games against them matter more because they have the same emotional skin in the game.

So okay, maybe the season was really 3-2.

You don't find those bodies, you develop them.
Not saying you're wrong as I fully belive that development is mandatory to have a successful program. However a bit of devils advocate here, with the new NIL and transfer portal it it almost feels that you have to now be able to both develop AND find guys or you won't survive. To make things worse there is a very good chance that the guys you develop will dissappear if a bigger school comes calling.

Why I want us to move up, we have more in common with teams like Nevada, Wyoming, New Mexico etc. then we do with most of the Conference.

Agreed but whenever coaches or players are poached from your roster you are doing things right. But the meat and potatoes have to be those freshmen developing within your system to be able to step up.

I agree with AZDoc. The Griz need heavier DTs & NTs with lockdown corners to work the 3-3-5 in today's FCS. The Griz can continue to recruit all the 3* hybrid LB, DB & Safeties they want but need heavier athletic DL to be successful in the playoffs.

To me the Griz don't need a change of the HC but a change on who & what we recruit. We also need a change in our basic defensive line strategy.

A short supply of top level corners, or defensive linemen(s) & nose tackle(s) will limit the Griz success in playoffs but not matter during the regular season of play.

No matter what happens with personnel in 2026 I will still be a fan going forward.
Isn’t it beyond frustrating that to run this scheme effectively you need a wrecker at NT, which the Griz didn’t have as well as lockdown corners, which the Griz had until Loud goes out and then they don’t. Shouldn’t the first priority every be to get an abundance at those two positions?

I agree, one would think that but for some reason they are choosing him as in state recruits.
