Every time I hear that damn chant, I am still grateful I chose to be a griz

You know the one. That stupid song.

Standing in the stands, surrounded by cats fans, student section chirping and heckling me, all that crap. i don’t like it, but most of it you just ignore.

The thing that can still put a smile on my face today is that my team and my school isn’t so classless to chant that over and over ad nauseum.

I’m not above profanity, or offensive stuff. But man, I see how rank and file cats fans carry themselves and woof. I’m glad I’m not one of them.

I can't stand it.
Worse yet, too many GRIZ fans lower themselves to FTC chants too.
I don't like any of it but somehow telling opposing fans to eat excrement is beyond the pale in my book. They're not going to change though. All we can do is hope that the coaching staff makes changes and the Griz can beat them again in the future. It's the only thing that shuts them up and makes them go away.

While it does make the hair on the back of my neck stand up our rival is not the only team that uses defecation in a song.

West Virginia uses a song that is played in almost every stadium, at least in the USA, “Sweet Caroline”, to tell their rival, Pitt, basically the same thing.

The way that one silences it is by winning.

The entire stadium, Men, women, and children and chanting for 20 year old kids to eat shit, as their season/career is ending, man. I dunno. It’s just so Just vile to me. It’s gross.
While I agree and we all want to hold ourselves and our team to a higher standard than are rival, there are also many times that I dislike what I see in WaGriz.

For example earlier this year I saw a father with two young children, probably like 4 and 6 years old young men and their dad wearing hats with “FTC” on them.

I don’t like it when I see fans from either side wearing hats with ”FTC” or “FTG”.

Letting two small children wear hats like that is also gross.

I am sure there are some parents across the divide that have their toddlers wear “FTG” hats as well.

The cats are the rivals, in a normal game they would be called an opponent.

I don’t like the chant nor the “FT” stuff, but it is not ever going away.

I don’t mind the one off “eat shit” or whatever because that’s just going to be part of trash talk. But what stands out is the reputation, over and over and over, and the institutional embrace of it.

Im not going to pretend Missoula is the classiest of places but Jesus Christ those weirdos over the mountains set the bar in hell.

I work for a big multinational company and we sometimes get people from Montana at our main site. I always make it a point to welcome them and see if I can help them while there.

Last year we had two guys from Montana out, and I introduced myself and simply said, "Go Griz". Both of them reflexively started into their eat shit Grizzlies chant.

This is why they are still considered little bro. Griz live rent free in their heads.
