I realize that we’re all bitter and upset right now, but I’d like to temper some of the anger with some flowers for one of the all-time great single season performances by any Griz quarterback in history. Keali'i set several Griz records this year for passing.
Some of these records should probably be listed with an *, as playoff statistics didn’t count up until 2001, but here’s what he did this year (an * shows position if playoff statistics from earlier years are counted):
1. Highest season completion percentage of any Griz quarterback in history. This one is a record even including Dave’s tremendous season in 1995 (69.07%). KAY hit 69.15% of his passes, breaking Craig Ochs' official record percentage set in 2004.
2. Most passes and completions in one season. (* 3rd?)
3. Second highest season passing yardage total, with 4070 yards. (* 3rd)
… and he’s just getting started!
Passes, completions, and passing yardage also leads the FCS this year.
Now it’s up to the staff to find more and better receivers and a tougher offensive line so KAY can cook for the next two years.
