Soccer Citowicki leaving for Wazzu?

After doing some research on the two rumored candidates, I would probably pass on Rousse. She went winless in SEC play her last two years on the job. Not exactly a glowing resume.

Cavallo doesn't seem too bad though. Looks like he was pretty successful at MSUB and then spent two years at Denver where during his time there they won a Summit League title. That's his only D1 coaching experience but that's double the amount of years Citowicki had. Plus he's got ties to MT so maybe he would see this as his last job potentially.
He was also an assistant at university of Nevada - Reno which is D1 before being brought onto the DU staff.

If a coach is named quickly, do any players reconsider or has that time passed?
Have heard that 1 that was leaving is now planning on staying.

I don’t think that will matter much to those that are planning to go to wsu. The quicker they can make a hire the better so they can get good players from the portal.

The positive lining with all this is that with the new roster limits there are 400 ish D1 players that will still be looking for a home.

Transfer portal total was 15 that entered. Only know of the first 4 on where they are headed.

I assume the other 11 are all going to WSU.

I thinks its pretty important to hire the new coach quickly, its a real possibility that the roster will be depleted enough that prevents the team from playing spring games. Anyone know when school starts?

My only worry about hiring a career assistant is they have a lack of knowledge of rebuilding a program. Chris took over a completely different program when he arrived, he took over a program that was on the rise.

Hearing only 3 or 4 of the 2026 classes is staying with the program. Is Max Weber at Boise State one to look at? He's from Montana.
Now that's an option I could get behind! Has been at Boise State since 2018 and the Broncos have been very successful! Before that he was at Eastern and was highly successful there as well back during the Eags back to back NCAA Tourney trips! He's been an assistant a long time and might be ready for his turn to lead a program! And he's from Great Falls, so maybe he wants to come home! Might be able to convince a couple players to come with him too.

Going from Boise State to Montana? That wouldn't be considered a step up, would it? He's probably making more money as an associate HC at Boise than he would as a HC at Montana.
Ya but how badly do you wanna become a D1 head coach? And how badly do you wanna come home? That's the tradeoff!

Does he look at Boise going into the PAC12 making him more attractive to big jobs in his mind. I've heard he goes for a lot of head jobs too and doesn't get them, is that a red flag?

I'd say it depends on what head job he's trying to get. Is he going for other MWC jobs and not getting them because those schools are hiring proven head coaches? Is he going for Big Sky level jobs and not getting those for a multitude of reasons? Hard to say.

Regardless, I would just like them to make a hire. We're getting late in the game and it's time to get out there and start recruiting! It'd be nice if we heard a legit candidate list by now from someone who's in the know!

So far we've heard three different names tossed around for the head coaching job. Of those three, here's how I'd rank them:

1. Max Weber - Boise State Assistant. Weber is may favorite of the bunch so far. He's been a D1 assistant for the last 10 years at both Boise and Eastern, and both programs have been highly successful with him on staff. He played at Whitman and got his coaching career started at Walla Walla JC, so he definitely has strong ties to the Eastern Washington/Spokane area, along with Southern Idaho. Plus he also has ties to Montana being from Great Falls.

2. Stephen Cavallo - D2 head coach. He's been a head coach at two separate D2 programs including MSUB. Has minimal D1 coaching experience at both Nevada and Denver, but Denver was wildly successful while he was on staff there. He's a Montana guy and I believe has earned a shot at leading a D1 program.

3. Molly Rousse - Former Ole Miss head coach. Was fired at Ole Miss after going winless in SEC play her last two seasons on the job. Before that she was the head coach at Utah Tech and was ok, but nothing special. The only upside I would see to her is she's still relatively young and maybe she could bring some SEC caliber players with her to UM, but man was her time at Ole Miss ugly. This should only be the "if all else fails" option.
