It depends what your definition of rougher is. The protective equipment wasn’t as good and there was less of an emphasis on player safety with officiating 55 years ago but the players were bigger, stronger and faster 18 years ago.

If you're talking about Dartmouth football 55 years ago that wasn't considered FCS. It was absolutely considered at the highest level of DivI.
