James Madison

I am not sure that is true.
People seem to forget that the WAC indeed sent an FBS invite to Montana in 2010...

Texas State was the other FCS program that received an invite to join the WAC in 2010. They're now set to join the new PAC conference.

Had Montana accepted that offer (with Montana State), Montana would be by now in the Mountain West or the new PAC 12.

But how many national championships would we have missed out on in that 15 years?😉

The difference is stark:

JMU doesn't care if they win the FBS because they have a brinks truck pulling up to campus and the number of new students that they can recruit are staggering.

Montana wants to win the FCS championship so bad that there could be a public lynching if they don't and forget about the the playoff money the university gets. It's so minimal that they have to beg the public for donations to pay for the band to travel to the Natty. They may have to ask town pump for gas money to get the team over the divide to Bozeman.

James Madison is the 12 seed and will play #5 Oregon in the first round. Winner takes on #4 Texas Tech.

What an incredible opportunity for James Madison who we all considered our peer athletic institution not that long ago.
Been there, done that. It wasn't much fun, although $4M would have helped alleviate some of the pain.

Just three years removed from FCS and they’re playing in what amounts to a play in game to the CFP tonight. Pretty wild
Like Boise State, they are having their moment in the sun and then will sink into oblivion just like all the other former FCS powerhouses. My favorite of course is Idaho. Totally packed Kibbie dome in the mid-nineties, then my family and I returned to one of their FBS games and the ticket-taker said no need for a ticket--just go in.. Bring your dog, your horrible mother in law, any body you can find at the Corner Club, and perhaps there were 800 people in there. What fun!!! GS, Marshall, App State , you name it--all dawdling along. JMU will be destroyed by the Ducks worse than the Cats were, and that will be that.

Loved the 'bring your dog' line.:ROFLMAO:

I think Idaho learned its lessons well, swallowed its pride and jumped at the chance to re-enter the BSC.
Boise State has all the advantages, economic and political. . I would guess that most of the population are 'other-than-Idaho' transplants. The metro area population is estimated at 900,000. Its West Coast come east. They can dawdle along and no one will care.

Format for 2026-7 CFB isn't finalized.
If JMU gets crushed like the Scats by Oregon there may be some changes.
TV networks can't be happy with Notre Dame being left out as they are a much bigger $ draw than JMU.

When in doubt - it's all about the $$$

It is well known that the grass is always greener on the other side of the college football, the backup QB is better than the starter, the reflection of the dog has a bigger treat. People are always optimistic until they aren't. We know what we have and it is very good but...

I think there will be changes because the P4 want to squeeze the G5 out.
I used to think that, but now I'm not so sure. Mind you, not for any "altruistic" motive. They've already got it pretty well set so the G5 will never get more than a token presence in their playoff system. However, it also seems clear that they want the G5 programs around to develop players who are "not quite there" out of high school. With NIL and better exposure to poach the top players, the P4 teams are already using the G5 conferences as their "developmental" league.

No, aside from tweaking the selection and seeding process, the only big change I can see is a possible expansion to 16 teams.

I believe they would rather the G5 have zero presence in their playoff system, and G5 will still be around to develop players. I believe they would rather share money with fewer schools.

If I trust AI it's $2.5k a year. For comparison EWU tuition is about $8.5k all in per year (I think the athletic fee is $250 to $300 a year) so that's about 30 percent of just the cost of attendance. I know you can't directly consume compare the two schools but it's still kinda crazy to me.

And you Griz fans are quick to dunk on EWU but they had good computer science program when I was there and I think it's still pretty respectable.

I have zero desire for the Griz to play in the Tempe Tampax Bowl or the Snoop Dogg Smoke a Bowl.

Regardless where we end up, I’m a Griz fan for life!

It's why those 80-year-olds mentioned by Schmidt need to go away.
