Mountain West looking to add three teams

NDSU, UC Davis and Tarleton are the ones they are thinking of adding.
These guys say a lot, some of which is true and some of which isn’t. If this is indeed true, UC Davis was already on the path given all their other sports already joining with a plan to bring up the rest of their facilities to a level comparable. NDSU is a no brainer as a football only member, not sure the Mountain West wants to see them compete in the Summit still though.

The bigger question is if The Mountain West is seriously considering dipping into the FCS further to strengthen their conference because of limited options, then what options does the new PAC conference have except to do the same?

But...there are no MOUNTAINS in North Dakota. And they aren't WEST either. With all the realignment, I guess geography does not matter anymore. And it is like Suck State was caught in a collegiate musical chairs moment and cannot find a chair after all the other teams sat down. Mountain West is a scramble drill now.

Montana is never going to move up. It's not going to happen. Here is where I get to irritate some folks, but UM is a big fish in a small pond. Same with MSU, UC Davis is interesting. Tarleton doesn't surprise me at all. They have been on the move for a while.

With NDSU moving up, Montana and Montana State become the apex predators in the FCS again.

NDSU makes sense.

Even with the result of last Saturday, statistically over the last 14 years there have been only a handful of teams that can compete with them. Coach Klein (Waterboy reference) must have left his playbook laying around, Bohl picked it up, and handed it off from coach to coach over the years.

They have a tried and true blueprint for winning championships there. You can't argue their 14 years of success and the National championships. Nobody is going to break that record.

I would love to see NDSU move up. if for no other reason than to watch them get humbled year after year. Yeeeah JMU made the playoffs this year. they'll be competitive until the game starts, then it's all downhill from there.

$$$$$$ or lack there of.

If the financials work, UM would move up in a second with an opportunity. I am afraid not being proactive will leave them holding an empty bag if the G6 get kicked to the curb by the P4 and they form their own playoff and revenue sharing model.
Agreed, the big changes are all rumored to be happening I think in 2032 (end of current media contracts) and I wish and hope we're being more proactive to prepare for it then. Garunteed the PAC schools will poach a few more from the MWC and American will probably target Air Force at minimum, which should open up more opportunities for us to get an invite.

I just don't understand why if the MWC is looking to add NDSU why they also wouldn't add the Montana's. If the argument is location, well then I would argue Fargo is more remote than Missoula and Bozeman. HHB is probably right that it's a financial thing, but I'd have to think if Haslam had a sense that the G6 was on the verge of forming their own playoff, then he'd be doing everything in his power to get us into the MWC or somewhere else. I'd imagine there'd be some boosters that could help UM pay the transition fee, but maybe we need more help from the state to just to keep the boat afloat once in FBS? I know there's a couple of legislators who would be all for the Griz and cats moving up. Maybe they could help throw some money into the budget for that.

Kent has said on many occasions that when the MWC calls, the answer will be not only yes, but HELLSFUCKING YES!!

Of course, being LDS he didn't use quite that terminology. But the essence is the same

So if there's a sense that the G6 starts to do their own thing, should Haslam pick up the phone and call them? If they're looking at NDSU but not the Montana's, then do we need to be more proactive then? Not saying we need to go full Sac State lol, but maybe Haslam needs to express more interest?

I have no way of knowing, but I trust he's made our intentions clear. But yes, if I were him I'd be calling the MWC and their presidents every single day.

Do you have a list for what makes a stadium "FBS ready"?
Capacity is no longer a requirement but sometimes some upgrades may be required to "modernize" the stadium. Hell, if the spuds quonset hut was considered an FBS stadium, i think it's probably pretty wide open to what's actually acceptable.
