When is it going to leak out or get announced that Vigen is departing?

What I would do if I were Brent Vigen and wanted to move up would be similar to the Choate route. I would take an offensive coordinator position in the Big 10 and then take the head coaching job somewhere like Minnesota when it is available in a few years. I think the lack of FBS experience especially at the power 4 level is holding Brent Vigen back from getting these head coaching jobs he is applying for.

l thought he had FBS experience in Wyoming...

Who is offering him an OC position in the Big Ten?

I haven’t talked to any Big 10 coaches but I think most of them would be smart to at least talk to him about coming on as an OC with his record of qb development as OC at NDSU and Wyoming

He does but he is applying for jobs that are better than Wyoming. WSU is interested in Banks because he has experience and connections to assemble a staff of assistants from the SEC and Big 12.
Not sure how much better OSU/WSU are than Wyoming in the current landscape

The problem with this thinking is I think he's a better HC than OC.

Choate is just one of those guys who is hell bent on moving on, and he was very emotional after missing out on the Boise job. It's funny though, because if he had stayed, I think he ends up getting a better job than Nevada. Anyways, Vigen just doesn't have the same personality as Choate. He wants to move up, obviously, but on his terms, and if that can't be met, then he's happy to stay.

I was on here a while back and mentioned without any research that I thought he developed QB's well because of Josh Allen. However, I have started looking more into his previous stops and could figure out where and why I was wrong. 2016 was the only year that his teams were in the top 5 in any passing category and was only around 215 yards per game. Vigen is the typical run heavy, control the clock and more fundamental than innovator. In my opinion that is not the guy power 4 conferences are looking for.

2016 was Josh Allen’s only healthy year playing under Vigen at Wyoming. He was injured in 2015 and 2017 which is why the stats do not look as good those years as far as passing numbers.

Even playing less games in 2017 he should’ve still been relatively close to his 2016 year in terms of Passing yards per game. Pretty dismal for a Big Ten OC.

Vigen isn’t and was never considered this all world QB developer, offensive guru, or any type of innovator. Those terms are just not attributable to him.

Josh Allen’s injury was a separated shoulder similar to Loud’s injury this season, on his throwing arm and Josh Allen only missed 2 games. If you have ever had a separated shoulder you would understand that is an injury that will effect throwing with that arm for longer than 2 weeks.

Question for you all? Do FBS schools look very hard at things like the DUI scandal and this latest issue with Davis? The longer Vigen coaches at MSU the less attractive he becomes? Is that a possibility?
He is a very good coach however their might be more under the surface????

Any Fcs coach that takes a new position will have to leave their school even if they are in the playoffs.
The new recruiting windows and transfer portal will cause schools to not wait around IMO.

You proposed that Vigen could be an OC in the Big Ten if he wanted to and was a great QB developer. In my opinion he is not. His best year was with Josh Allen in 2016 and still never averaged more than 250 yards through the air. He’s never had a prolific offense in his career. He is a run oriented coach. He was very lucky Josh Allen was under recruited.

You are entitled to that opinion but to say that Josh Allen should have had similar stats in 2017 as 2016 when his throwing arm was clearly hampered by injury is wrong. I am also looking at Carson Wentz who had a similar trajectory from not being recruited by any major schools when he met Brent Vigen to being a first round pick, albeit 2 years after Vigen left but Vigen was there for Carson Wentz first 3 years of development at NDSU.

Who would want a guy that developed a QB that had a 56% completion percentage for his college career? (Allen)

Not me
Allen’s college completion percentage taking into account JuCo is actually under 50%. The accuracy issues were the main thing NFL teams were concerned about when he came out but some like Buffalo were willing to look past it. He has a rocket of an arm that isn’t shown in 2017 with the previously mentioned injury, ideal size and surprising athleticism.

So Vigen is responsible for their rocket arms and athleticism? You can’t keep moving the goalpoasts here. They were both in run heavy offenses that didn’t produce huge passing numbers. You are acting like Vigen is Mike Leach.
