LadyGriz LG versus St Thomas

You obviously were not at the game. The Lady Griz drove numerous times. Their shooting percentage on drives was just as bad as from 3. !0 of Mack's 12 misses were wild shots off drives.
Tough defensive team, collapsed in on the drives, Mac usualy pretty skilled on those, I guess hoping for the fouls? Agree, not an excuse for wild away shots....that's just desperation. Team needs to look at different offense strategy. I'd imagine opponents looking at film clips got us figured out, close out our 3's, collapse in the key, block outs on rebounds work very well, since our players are settled in around the 3 line.

Like Shannon Cate's offense all over again.

Not quite yet, and still early enough, we've got comparably way more talent, in particular shooters, and speed. New players this year too, so the basic chemistry takes a little while. The coaching seems at least more flexible in terms of change up of strategies and players. Also I believe teambuilding and culture with this team is doing ok.

I may be totally off base but this team has a long way to go to be real completive in the conference. Lots of talent but they have not meshed together yet and that is tough to do with a number of transfers. I still have hope that everything will come together but it has not happened to date

I swear to god for the last 10 years the LG miss more shots from 2 feet away than any team in the country. If we could ever figure out how to make a layup this team would win games in the tournament. Is it a size issue or just lack of post skills? I dunno. But saturday night was a perfect example.

Konig seems inconsistent and misses way more of these than you'd expect. Especially for a talented player who can "go off" quite often from anywhere on the court.

Would be interesting to see what St Thomas did to limit LG to only 18 three attempts, considering the LG average 38 or so three point attempts a game.

Dont think collapsing on drives is the answer and sounds like St Thomas stayed locked onto shooters and walled up the drives and made them shoot over outstretched arms. Or they chased shooters off the 3 point line and made players into drivers that are not comfortable being drivers.

Didnt watch so dont know that answer, but they did something to limit the 3 point attempts. LG arent gonna stray from that philosophy considering its a big part of the of other games when looking at box scores. This game will be watched heavy by other BSC schools to identify how St Thomas limited the LG to basically half the 3 attempts they usually get.

After shooting 19 for 38 from the 3-point line in Wednesday's 86-56 win at North Dakota, Montana attempted only 18 threes on Saturday as St. Thomas employed a no-help defense that allowed the Lady Griz to take individual defenders to the basket.

"That is what we're going to see," said Harris, whose team shot 41.9 percent overall, its second-best effort of the season against Division I opponents. "Teams are going to make us finish at the rim. They are going to stay out and not help, so you've got to finish.

Obviously, Lady Griz couldn't finish against a team that was letting them.

I'd have to admit, I'm rather taken aback from one observation I've noticed. Since I've seen Jill Greenfield score 32 points against Bosie State way back when, following the LG program since, I've never seen an LG Roster with a junior on it that either isn't a starter or at least a sixth man off the bench; so to speak. A first in nearly 45 years of the program.

Opponent collapse in on our drives, same as "walled up the drives", same. Reliance on the 3pts, only works when making a reasonable amount of attempts. When they don't drop , coupled with low/no rebounds/putbacks is a bad recipe. I think we do have the shooters, land for instance had 30pts in a preceding game. Consistency, and having a flexible shift up of an offense strategy should help.
