BSC Officiating, Please...

Take note of how the UAC officiated the Montana verses SDSU game.
1. The officials equally established early that chippy crap wouldn't be tolerated.

2. They established they'd let both teams play aggressively on coverage.

3. They established, holding within reason would be allowed.

4. They calmly discussed things in question. They got it right every time!

Folks, that officiating crew set and established precedence and kept with it for a full game! That's exactly what precedence is!

That crew taught an Officiating 101 Class! I honestly hope the Big Sky Conference uses this game to improve officiating.

Terrific job officials!

They missed a targeting call on Wortham's touchdown catch, but that is something that can be picked up on review later. Overall, much better than previous officials.

The only thing that had me really fired up about a "missed" call was on the second play. The first play, the crowd caused a false start. On the next play on 1st and 15, Chase Mason started moving back before the ball was snapped. An obvious false start that had everyone booing, but the refs somehow missed it.

Other than that, I can't recall any decisions made by the refs that were bad. Pretty good job overall.

I was in the student section and all of us were amazed at how a false start that obvious could be missed.

The late call on the delay of game by Griz DL was wrong. The main ref goofed up the call with the multi[le penalties, but they corrected it. In that call, the penalty on our defender chasing the ball was wrong; he can't stop if I player steps in front of him They talked way too long on little or dumb stuff. They missed false starts on SDSU several times, including the second play of the game. They let go some huge and clear holding calls a few times, when it was blatant and right in front of the ref.

According to Riley on the radio feed, and I didn't see the game on TV, at least the referee and one other official were from the OVC/Big South.

I know they missed an obvious false start that should have been called on Mason on SDSU's opening drive. According to the call on the radio, they also called a personal foul on Brady Beaner who went to the ground with two SDSU players on top of him. I know the radio calls can be biased, but I don't think the officials were flawless. Officiating has gotten steadily worse since the advent of replay review.

That’s a gray area. If the qb is the only one moving, he’s allowed to move backward in shotgun if in the official’s mind he’s not simulating a snap. To me, that was a foul, but I can’t argue it too vociferously.

You're right.
Read my original post again.
I very much emphasized they were consistent with how they'd call the game by establishing precedence and maintaining it.

All I expect is consistency in what will be called and what won't be called. I'll take the results of this playoff game officiating crew every game. Their consistency was terrific. I'm not complaining about missed holding calls. They never started calling them and let both teams play.

As for targeting, yes I too saw a few possible targeting. However, from MY VIEW, they weren't obvious. Again, they established and maintained consistency.

I believe both teams, coaches, and players appreciated that consistency. As a fan, I sure did.

I am talking about missed or bad calls. Consistently is a category I didn’t address. The delay of game was a consistency call?

Christ sake, there's missed calls every game! What don't you understand? In my OPINION, and many others, this officiating crew was a huge improvement with consistency than Big Sky crews.

Your making it sound as if I'm implying they were perfect. Perfection NEVER exists in officiating. Consistency is a fair expectation. This crew accomplished that, in comparison to Big Sky crews.

I read your post. I provided my response. You said they were good. I said they made mistakes. I pointed some out. Explain the delay of game call on the DL shift. In my opinion, there was better officiating in Griz stadium in some games this year.
