Very interesting that they speak so highly of their defense. When Mason was out, they gave up a lot of points. That tells me his production at QB hid a lot of deficiencies.A-team podcasting

Stephen F. Austin and Lehigh are not better teams than USD and UCD. Not sold on Tarleton either. I am going to throw 1 unit down on both the Cats and Griz to win it all. Those odds present tremendous value. Vegas is practically begging people to bet on anyone other than NDSU.![]()

The only teams I am sold on are NDSU, MSU and UM. UND and SDSU have a chance as in they can beat anyone in the tournament but they have been inconsistent and had bad losses. The defense on SDSU and special teams and qb play at UND is what I am questioning. Both are built up front in the trenches with lines that can win championships.Stephen F. today's SDSU presser audio
Thanks for the analysis. Mason can beat the Griz throwing 5-7 yard outs and slants all day. Montana has done a good job not giving a lot of deep passes. With the pressure the 3-3-5 sends I can see a similar gameplan that you threw at UNH. They have given up a lot of passing yards but in those games, a la EWU, they completely abandoned the run and threw the ball over 60 times.I don't think anyone holds any illusions that we're going to be able to shut you guys down close to what we did the last 2 years, our defense isn't as good (at least not as consistently) and your offense is much improved. I do think we can make some big plays defensively and have spurts of success where we make it hard on you for 2-3 possessions at a time. I also think you are also going to have 2-3 possessions at a time where it looks like the Griz offense can do anything you want. Should make for an exciting back and forth game.
Outside of the NDSU game, I think our defense has actually played okay (good but not great) after Mason went out. In the last 4 games of the year (3 of those against teams also playing this weekend) our defense allowed just over 300 yard per game, but in that span we gave up points or set up the other team deep in our territory via a kickoff return, muffed kickoff return, muffed punt snap, pick 6, muffed punt, and an interception. Some of that falls under the backup QB's not covering up deficiencies, I think some of it falls under the defense putting too much pressure on themselves and trying to do too much at times because our backup QB's were in.
There was also a bunch of special teams miscues that accounted for a lot of points given up as well. That's the part of the game that worries me the most in this weekend, our special teams has been shaky and the Griz are always very good in that department.
This is Dan Jackson's weekly interview on a local media guy's daily podcast. Weekly presser should come out tomorrow.
I understand those guys are fans but geez. They seem to think the jacks are going to come in and ride roughshod over the Griz.A-team podcasting

Yea, the stats seem to tell the story that the Griz are way out of their league.I understand those guys are fans but geez. They seem to think the jacks are going to come in and ride roughshod over the Griz.
The stats and box score never tell the whole story. Anyone who looks at the box score could be misled that Youngstown almost beat NDSU but anyone who actually watched the game knows that wasn’t the case.Yea, the stats seem to tell the story that the Griz are way out of their league.
Mom, you know how people come on this board from other places that may not be pro griz? And you hate it? And do you remember your fans on this board saying Griz would beat cats by 30? Or you remember your fans on this board saying Griz would be favored by 10+ leading into the game? Have you read your fans on this board saying that despite losing in Missoula you’ll go into Bozeman and crush them even though you haven’t won there in a decade?I understand those guys are fans but geez. They seem to think the jacks are going to come in and ride roughshod over the Griz.
Mom,
I wouldn’t look too much into it. But I do think that certain fans on their own message boards or podcasts tend to be pretty confident in their teams abilities……
