Vigen is staying at MSU

Last year Vigen was the top choice at Wazzu and offered a 5-year deal starting at $1.25M per year with incentives up to $2M. Vigen's offer was pulled and given to Jimmy Rogers of SDSU when Vigen demanded to stay and coach the Championship. CDA, PR and many other on this site had that completely wrong. Not surprising.

This year is different. I don't know exact details yet, and like last year, I wouldn't post them here even if I did know specifics until it was all public knowledge. However in my limited understanding/best guess, I think Vigen was prepared to leave right away and there was a plan in place with an interim HC to take this team to Nashville. Something else in the negotiation went sideways right before the signature page, but it's not a repeat of last year.

Vigen remains in very high demand for a G6 HC position. I give it only a small possibility that he's back next year. That's good news for you guys. He's a helluva good coach.

He is a very good coach and seems like a good guy. I would guess that MSU Offensive Coordinator took this job after being a highly successful D2 head coach knowing that the probability was high Vigen would move up within a couple years. I think they have a couple built in replacements unless they get paid more to go with him.

I'm personally fine with Pete Sterbick with Interim HC status. Gives Leon a chance at a trial run, and the sooner the better actually. I'm certain there is an active search right now for the actual hire (which still could be Pete). The hope is no time gap from Vigen's official departure and the official announcement of the new coach. Try to keep the wheels on the bus the best you can.

You can bet your ass there will be players and assistant coaches departing in the process. I'm at peace with it. This is the price of success in the modern era. Get back up off the ground and keep fighting with whatever is left.

It is the nature of it all now. I don't think he needs to rush into any decision because there will be plenty of opportunities for him. I would still be shocked if he doesn't coach until the end of season.
 
IF Vigen did in fact turn down the job (still to be determined) he made the right decision IF Oregon State doesn’t make an announcement today. That program is a dumpster fire if they don’t post, interview and hire within a reasonable timeline. I thought it was actually a good fit for Vigen and offered the challenge he was looking for. I think he could have turned their program around and been in the top 1/4 of the conference within two years.

They announced Shepherd as head coach this morning.

Really? You think he’d leave you guys in the middle of the playoff run? Why do you say that?

And also for the moment, I think you’re safe. There aren’t any jobs out west right now, but that could change after the weekend.

Leon and the entire rest of the program got a rep last year to learn from. I suspect the communication was excellent from Leon to the coaches to the players and support staff. So, yes I really believe he would have left but it wouldn't have been a surprise to anyone. This team would have charged forward with an interim and continued to compete.

All of this may still happen. In a strange twist, I actually wanted it early and I am somewhat disappointed. A bye week would have been perfect.

Vigan made it to the finalist stage, but was not going to get the offer and withdrew.

So, he got turned down because he demanded terms that WSU didn’t want to meet. He got rejected the same as if he would’ve demanded $90 billion per year. I know this because if he didn’t get rejected by WSU, he would be the coach of WSU.
