MBBALL Grizzlies vs. Grizzlies Game Thread

Patented Griz scoring drought and going 11/20 on free throws, missing multiple layups down low, dribbling around when open down low near the basket instead of going directly up for the shot and letting the d get there isn’t a recipe to win most games.

Long way to go the rest of the season and the team is still probably figuring things out together, but woof.

Even if they get an NCAA bid, looks like another 14/15/16 seed will be coming their way.

What in the world was that previous offensive possession? Down 8, other Griz miss both free throws, you get the ball to the middle of the key and don’t throw it to the wide open man at the top of the key for a quick shot and you just hang onto the ball and waste time? Yikes.

Pathetic. This team has completely ruined their great start to the season. Free throw shooting has been bad all year but tonight was awful. Turnovers once again were a major problem. I don’t get it. How do you go from knocking off UNLV and scaring A&M to getting embarrassed at home by Lamar and Oakland? Good thing we have over a week off now to figure it out.

I'm venting a little bit here but its just more of the same. Inconsistent shooting to the point where I'm starting to think its the training staff, a lack of development, and just odd playcalling and clock usage. I just so badly want one of these years where the tough scheduling actually pays off but it seems like this team just hits a ceiling every year and thats it. All that said the big sky is still wide open because all the other teams look bad too.

I'm so disappointed in losses to Lamar (shouldn't lose to them) and Oakland (better than Lamar). Missed FTs, missed bunnies, inconsistent 3 shooting, and the worse part, teams attacking the paint easily on us.

The lack of paint defense needs cleaned up, regardless of other parts of the game. If not, it's going to be a disappointing season.

6'6" + players are finishing way to easy in the paint. Something needs changed. Unfortunately, Betts' skill set may go to waste. Granted, he's no banger. However, if I'm coaching him, he's my combo defensive nightmare. He moves quickly and smoothly and he's long. I honestly think he's capable of defending any player, except a paint bully. Plus he's got nice touch on offense. I'd honestly tell him, just focus on defense, we need you to be our big wing stopper (Bobby Moorehead). That's the versatile defender this team needs! The other perimeter players don't have his length and defensive versatility. I'm guessing, he's never been asked to fill this role. If he took to it like Moorehead did, he'd be a huge key contributor.

It's a perfect time for shake up. That would be my shake up. We shall see.

Yes, the way the Griz lost wasn't good, shooting poorly at the line, etc. But losing to a team that played 3 teams in the top ten and coming within 10 points of the team ranked #1 in the nation is pathetic?

I for one think the team will be just fine by big sky tournament time.

Oakland won a game in the NCAA tourney last year had lots of good players and a coach with 42 years at the school. Griz interior defense is a struggle but true frosh Aguino is a stud (24 points 16 boards!), RS frosh Thompson had his best game by far (19 points 5 threes) and Money set an all time assist record in the game with 15. Oakland would contend for the Big Sky title in my opinion.

Some of you spoiled "big dog" FCS football fans need to realize D1 basketball is a different animal with way more competition and by nature more up and down games for even the best teams.

"Griz til I Die" must be close to death if the 2 performances by the Griz freshmen tonight were "pathetic".

Hope I'm not lumped into that...

Expected a lot more out of this team. And they might be decent in the big sky, but they look uninterested, confused, and slow. Also, hit your damn free throws.
They'll contend and might win the Big Sky this year. They are well coached engaged and athletic. Just not real big or physical. Were you watching the same game tonight? You last sentence is the only thing close to accurate.

You ARE lumped in with Griz til I Die. Why don't you guys take true frosh Aguino for coffee (byo) and tell him how uninterested, confused and slow he looked scoring 24 and pulling down 16 boards tonight?!

GTID, Mouse, and Native know way more hoops than I do. !!!

I am just disappointed because we beat UNLV on their floor, put a scare 😱 into A&M on theirs, and come home and lay an egg in two games on our court--granted that Lamar and Oakland are decent teams.

I just see this as an important lost opportunity because I see our nonconference success or lack thereof important to our Big Dance seeding, should we win The Big Sky as our conference wins will get almost no respect from the committee, and at least to me early in the season with these two back-to-back losses on our floor, we're looking a lot more like a 14-16 seed than a 11-13.

I hope that Travis gets our boys back on track and the rest of our nonconference games are pretty damn good with all or almost all W's. !!!

While I’m disappointed in the loss, I have hope and hope springs eternal. Whatever in the hell that means. Anyway I feel the Griz have the nucleus of a good team, not great but good. What would it take to be a great team, of course, a 6’10” banger inside. Oakland scored over half their point within 3’ of the basket, 55 to be exact. Sawyer, and I like him, should function as coming off the bench to relieve our big guy. That’s what the premier mid majors teams have. But, like I said hope springs eternal.

Aguino as a freshman has excellent potential. How we snagged him I’ll never know. But he’s learning and last nights performance is indicative of his potential. 16 rebounds last night is great. In BSC he should average, with his size, 8 to 10 rebounds a game. He has all the tools to be a great player, a double double every night. His weakness now is aggressive-ness around the basket, but that will come.

Hope springs………

Exactly my feelings. Some of it has to be from breaking in 5 or 6 new players into the rotation and the program. It seems that there are more consistent shooters from deep than we've seen in awhile.....but i'll be interested to see if it is sustainable for the whole season.

Aguino looks great. Did you see the last 5 minutes against lamar??? That team was confused, and a bit slow. This team plays sloppy, its early still and like i stated they will be decent in the big sky. At times Money looks like 2016 James Harden, and maybe I shouldn't expect that out of him every game. I see the talent and coaching and think that they could knock off a lot of these teams, just wish they could be more consistent in these early and tough non conference games.
How about you calm down, go buy yourself a beer, and have a great thanksgiving.
