Big Sky Officiating Thread

I see this is a hot topic and rightfully so.
This subject needs it's own thread for comments, analysis, videos, suggestions, etc. It's NOT intended for trash talking, name calling, etc.

Unfortunately, the facts are, Big Sky officiating has been terribly inconsistent for to many years. All the Big Sky fan bases have been complaining a lot about it.

In an effort to start somewhere to hopefully respectfully discuss and bring attention to it, let's get going here. I'm encouraging fans of all Big Sky fan bases to partake respectfully.

Let me introduce the 1st video. It's a short video of Lamson's TD run. I suggest pausing the video, then advancing it by dragging the slide bar. Pay close attention from 2 seconds to 4 seconds.

How many possible minor penalties do you see? I saw hints of a below the waist block, possible holding, and possible block in the back. Feel free to add to it.

Also please add more videos to this thread with your observations. I encourage videos and discussions from ALL Big Sky fan bases.

Do you see just as minor possible penalties on this equal to or worse than the hold called on Schaefer?

Once the officials estsblish what and how they're officiating, they need to STICK with it! No need to expect perfection, just consistency for both teams in all games.

Bigger question: WTF was the angle #2 took on that tackle? And what is our guy doing basically mugging their TE as he comes off the line? Very strange all the way around...

Biggest issue to me on that play is the complete lack of contain on the left side. everybody crashes down to the right and the left is wide open.

Tolbert was clearly hobbled all game and as video shows... MSU was smart to attack in the right places much of the game. Needed other GRIZ LB's to stick to their assignments.

All due respect, start a separate thread on other topics. We need to isolate officiating in this thread. I'm honestly sick, tired and done with Big Sky inconsistent officiating.....it's problematic

Should have watched the Chiefs game yesterday. Comical in its absurdity. Defense jumps offsides and instead of a free play (which it ALWAYS is), they blow it dead and give the Chiefs the 5 yards. Then, Chiefs on the 10 yard line and throw a swing pass to Rice who's about to get 6-8 yards minimum (possibly a TD), ref blows a whistle to stop the play...then says "there's no foul" and replay first down. Those two plays were within 4-5 plays of each other.

It happens at every level.

But fine, I'll stay out of your thread. Wasted energy. Griz should spend their time as a team controlling what they can control.

Poor officiating and bad calls happen every Saturday and Sunday from September- February. This isn't unique to the BSC. I would say these guys generally do a pretty good job.

Again, not asking for perfection, just consistency. Examples: the video I posted to start this thread compared to Schaefer's hold. The officials had established minor infractions weren't being called. If the officials are aware of that established precedence, take a second and think before flagging it.

Another example, the questionable defensive hold thst led to the Cats pick 6. Rather it was right or wrong, the officials established precedence was, they weren't calling minor infractions like that. Therefore, no penalty...based on that, correct no call!

Plus, for how many seasons have Big Sky officials let holding be ALMOST non existent? Yet, in the conferences biggest game of the year, with the most fans in attendance and watching TV, they bring inconsistent holding calls into the spotlight at a critical moment!!!!

If they're aware of these established factors, this isn't even a discussion, correct?

Sorry, I'm tired of us fans accepting mediocrity from Big Sky officiating!

If I were a member of that crew, I'd be frustrated and upset at the official who flagged that! That call just made the whole crew look incompetent!

It is not just a BSC problem.
You're right. However, we are Big Sky fans. Let fans of all the other conferences handle their own! It's that kind of acceptance that's led to inconsistent officiating being ok and next to no accountability!

If I'm Big Sky management, I welcome this challenge as opportunity to set the highest efficiency and examples as possible!

Who knows, the Big Sky gets it right, maybe whoever is in charge, gets promoted to cleaning up officiating in bigger conferences, with pay increases

But no, the issue is avoided like the plague....that's BS!

I enjoy watching film and you can always find minor infractions on every play. Officials will miss some.

The biggest issue with this play breaking down is because we didn't set the edge. If Peck stays on the outside path for his rush ( which I am sure he is supposed to) that will hold up Lamson enough for Tolbert to make a huge hit from the backside. Good scheme poor execution. Tolbert is barreling down and If Lamson has to hesitate at all he is clobbered.

So if it a systemic issue, where do you think the BSC can get the officials you seek?

I don't see the hold. You can't peak or try to win inside if you are the edge defender.

I realize this is a still shot and doesn't tell the whole story, but as 56 tries to cut back to his left, I believe he gets held, albeit briefly. Maybe he gets to Lamson, maybe not but I'd say it certainly impeded his progress.
