Good, Bad, Ugly - MSU

Good:
- put up 28 points against a very good defense, thought that would be enough for the win
- Gillman was a beast as usual. 15 carries for 138 and 1 TD. 8.8 ypc and juked some cats players out of their jock straps
- Brooks Davis doesn’t look like a Freshman. That one handed TD grab while keeping his foot down was insane. 10 catches for 113 and 1 TD (and another TD wiped away on a horrible call imo)
- Ah Yat was cool, calm and collected. He was very efficient. 26-32 for 186 with a TD and ran one in as well. Took some shots delivering the ball but kept grinding
- Wortham had some big returns and nice runs. Had 175 all purpose yards and a TD.
- that 9 minutes 16 play drive in the 3rd Q that led to a TD was a thing of beauty
- Griz D had 4 sacks and got some pressure
- held Taco in check in passing game and return game

Bad:
- the pick 6 changed the game. Watching live it looked like PI but it is what it is
- the Brooks Davis TD being negated over a phantom hold was also game changing. I watched that play on replay several times and if that is a hold by Schaefer then every single play of the game is a hold.
- the defense not being able to get a stop in the cats final drive where they milked 6 minutes away
- some missed tackles leading to extra yards for cats
- letting the QB run wild on us once out of the pocket. He has done that to teams all year. It’s not like it should have been a surprise. Seems like we lacked some execution or game plan in stopping it.

Ugly:
- the blocked FG that could have tied the game. One because it was a low kick, two because Crews batted it down. The irony in that.

I actually hope we get another shot at them in Bozeman. Would be tough to beat them there but I’d take those odds over going to NDSU.

Feel free to add

I agree with all of it. Maybe add to the bad or ugly the missed tackles that lead to him being able to extend plays or the cats get extra yards on that last drive.

Also we watched that replay 4-5 times in the stands and couldn’t see the hold. Flag came out as soon it was obvious there was 4 guys outflanking 2 from the back judges perspective which was also ours. Should be one of those things that live on in infamy.

I completely agree with these points of yours, and have also posted them elsewhere.

Newsflash: yes, that was a hold and yes, it could be called on every play.
Newsflash back to you. It wasn't a hold. It was a normal block and anything close to a hold was at the very beginning of the block. You could see 84 being dumbfounded by the call. He's a terrific blocker. He rarely holds, and doesn't have to.

It is ugliest that we have to hear this from the scat people for another year, but I thought the game plan was good, the execution was lacking, but we might have some redemption in a potential rematch coming because what our guys proved to themselves is that they can, as we as fans felt all along, play right with these teams.
The ugly to me in the game is the question what has happened to Ty Morrison. How many makeable field goals has he been off on. That's at least two from the right hash that he has kicked that have gone straight down the has marks well wide of the pipes.
Everyone wants to give the Missoula kid credit for the block when that was such a low kick to begin with.
Is Ty feeling the fatigue of handling all of the kicking duties? He sure isn't hitting the ball like he was and he doesn't even look confident to me.

Was it a low kick? I didn't notice that, but didn't look carefully either.

On longer kicks, and this would have been his longest of the year, kickers often kick more of a line drive to get the distance they need.

I hope this game, and the Cat QB's very good play, doesn't elevate him over Ay Yat in the all-conference rankings. I believe the rankings usually come out fairly soon after the regular season. I thought Ah Yat would be one of the top 2 QB's and deserved it.

I think the coaches' picks have some "politics" and coach lobbying in them. Vigen can't vote for his guy, nor can Bobby vote for his guy, to my knowledge. It seems that Ah Yat had bigger and much bigger games than the Cat QB did, and conference coaches would remember that. And, the conference coaches weren't watching the Griz-Cat game yesterday, I assume, so they didn't see how the QB's played.

And both Cats and Griz were very good this season, so all the picks are not going to flow to the top team, which is often done.

As I said elsewhere, I don't recall Ah Yat running again after he hurt his leg.

Hauck said in his presser that it was a low kick.

He’s had a bad year. I knew he was gonna miss it before he even stepped on the field. I turned to my dad three different times during that injury timeout and said there’s a 0% chance he makes it.

Bother struggled with assignments too. One particular run play from NEZ direction the Cats d line ran a stunt, the high snap was handled and handed to Gilman who head toward a gappjng hole up the middle only to have 34 come around Botner untouched and stops Eli for a 2 yard loss. If Botner gets that block Eli is still running. Botner had no one to block and blocked no one.

I was thinking…..hope they try and fake it…..however the yardage was so far in terms of getting a first down that it probably made calling a fake impossible

He is a terrific blocker. Not arguing that point. But it’s a hold. He’s got a fist full of the jersey, impeding progress…sadly it was completely unnecessary as it was way away from the play and that dude wasn’t involved at all…but it is what it is. Love Evan and he’s a terrific player…just made a mistake (or got caught) at a bad time.

Lol. My comment prior to the kick was “our kicking game is a shitshow…”

Noticed they put Silver out there on KO’s finally and he got it into the end zone…

Nope, don't agree. Nor do many people on the board. Progress wasn't impeded either, except by the block. Show us a still photo of the hold if you want to prove your point.

Here's all the proof I need. From Hooked in his first post in this thread. He's one of the best posters on egriz.
