Done watching Griz games

Ok, hear me out. This isn't a "Fuq the Griz! Im done!" thread. This is a controlling my anxiety and anger thread.

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to watch the game today. We drove to Atlanta for my daughter's B day, taking her and a friend to the Georgia Aquarium. During the three hour drive home, I begin to feel a confirming belief on something Sammy Akem said on the GFP. He said he hates being a fan of a team. At first i was like "WHAT!?" I thought thats crazy talk. His thought was he hates the anxieties, anguish, and heartaches you feel from being a fan of a team when the game doesn't go our way. At first i didn't agree. My thought was thats just part of what makes being a fan a beautiful unique thing, along with all the joy i mean. We don't feel this way over anything else in our lives, or most of us anyway. Can't speak for everyone obviously but i think its safe to say if you're on here reading this, you're probably as bad as i am.

So his words planted a seed though and as the last couple days have gone by, i began to see the logic in his thought. I began to realize that watching Griz games does take a toll. The heart races, the anxieties rise, and there's definitely moments of frustration and anger. I began to realize that i too hate feeling this way. Yes, its a relief when we win and it all feels worth it but the losses, especially ones like this, they suck and I hate it.

So midway driving home, the epiphany hits me. I don't go through all that if i don't watch the game. What if i wait till the games over and if we win, I'm more then happy to sit through whatever mistakes we make cus i know it'll be worth it. If we lose? I don't wanna watch that. I wont enjoy those 3+ hours and I cant get em back. There is a hundred billion more things I'd rather do then watch the Griz lose, and not just to the scats.

Now im sure several of you are like "fuq this" and theres no saying I'm even gonna be able to really do this. As i said, not watching today was not my choice. But it did certainly feel like someone was giving me an opportunity to see it from a different light...and I'm 1000% certain it felt better then the former. I also know this. I think its made accepting the loss and moving on to the next game easier also. Ready for the playoffs to start and cant wait to watch em all on the replay😁. Roll Griz and see you y'all in Nashville...hopefully. That one i will be watching live in person🐻🥰.

Truely, might be down after 56 years. Not sure. Most of my friends now sell their cat Griz tickets to cat fans to pay for the other tickets. Anyone who was at the game today saw why the Griz set a season record for season tickets - cats fans were loud from the first drive.

With the BSC unbalanced season, and 4BSC games in 2027 at home 5 on the road, combined Haslam’s CFO scheduling 8 home games this year, why would you pay for season tickets going forward? Burn the golden goose and people are willing to play the dice. This year was a bad swing and miss - but who knows. The team is full of talent and has a good coaching staff. End of era or legendary run? Everything is on the line this year.

My thought? We only get 12-15 chances a year to see the Griz play.

I’m going to take advantage of every single one and enjoy the roller coaster.
Agreed and thats where i wanna be. I think this is mostly a me problem in that I'm starting to think I've crossed too far into the emotionally involved area of fandom. In reality I probably wont be able to stay away anyway if not predisposed and unable watch or listen. My addiction/obsession is strong😂.

AZ I respect you. And I know you remember the days when the Griz were picked ro be a contender but really had no chance to be a contender.

And I now you feel the same way- scheduling 8 home games to try to get a freebie? Everyone else hates you for that. Play a better schedule and gain some respect. Scheduled a (I don’t know) schedule and take your bets. Win everything and you win. Lose the to the cats??

FWIW, I crossed that rubicon about 6-7 years ago, but have returned back healthy and unharmed…today being a prime example…life goes on. ‘Tis only sport, and Im not out there leaving my blood, sweat and tears on the field.

So you want to know the outcome before you choose to participate? Where else in life do you get to do this, or is this just a Griz thing? Does this apply to any of the other teams you follow?

Yes and probably nowhere. Im not anywhere this emotionally invested in any of my other teams like i am the Griz. Im beginning to think, at least based off most responses, that I'm more emotionally invested than most here and that it's probably an unhealthy level. Im thinking of this as more of a self imposed intervention.

WTF are you trying to say?

It’s hard to beat the same team twice in a season. Hopefully the Griz can get the 3 seed and get a rematch against the Cats, I would like our chances in that one.
That statement is tired and old. Why would we fair better in Bozeman than Missoula? Yesterday was a huge game and we came up short and made our playoff run that much more difficult.
