Montana State Bobcats scouting report

I love that the talking point from all season has been that quality loss. Leon clearly sold that to the committee too. You guys are the ones that have brought it up ad nauseam. I’ll gladly talk about your quality wins if you prefer?
No preference at all. We both played weak schedules but if you want to compare NAU and Davis to UND and I suppose Idaho the day before Cat/griz by all means! I won't stop you. None of it matters is the point I obviously failed to convey. :ROFLMAO:

Until our Montana teams are placed in opposite sides of the bracket, they’ll never play in the natty. The policy of keeping geographic travel affordability a factor in brackets is a stupid, unfair concept.
As Elrod said, that policy is no longer in place. I recently heard Sam Herder explain it to Colter on his show - the committee has a system where each member votes individually, and the top 16 teams receive a seed. The votes are all compiled to come up with the order of the seeds, in much the same way that the stats perform poll works, and once the seeds are determined they cannot be changed. How they determine the other eight teams I really don't know, but it doesn't really matter because everything is based on the seeding now. Top eight teams get the bye while teams 8 through 16 play in the first round against the unseeded teams.

First round matchups are regionalized, but yeah they try not do do in state teams on the same side if it is close.
First round matchups are no longer regionalized.

Edit -- It looks like Herder says I am wrong about this. I'd defer to him. Apparently first round games are still regionalized, but I was sure I had read that they were doing away with that. Apologize for the misinformation here

So, you want to abandon running the ball in the middle? The exact thing you, rightly, pointed out opens up the passing game? And what about all the giant runs he DOES break doing that, or then running outside?

That makes no sense to me. This is the best offense we have had since Sneed was tossing it to Toure and Akem, and Knight was running up the middle. I'd argue it has been more efficient. They are quite literally doing the exact things that you and other Griz fans have been asking for for years.

Bobby Hauck is never going to become an Air Raid coach. He is ALWAYS going to run the ball to either grind the other team down or make the stack the box and throw it past them. It is confusing for me that you are demanding they do the exact things they have already been doing.
I don't think I have made myself clear, and in this written format, I see no hope in doing so, short of a treatise on the subject. EGriz is not for 'War and Peace' explanations. The K.I.S.S. principle applies to eGriz. I just see the pointless jumping on the pile, risking injury, wasting a down(and probably going three and out). Its like Pease is just reading from a script, which says, "Now, run the ball up the middle, then..." despite what everyone in the stadium and in TV land sees as a stacked box waiting to crunch the run. Cookbook Football. Why the hell doesn't he use his brain?

I guess the only way we can resolve our differences is over a few, or many, beers. Tell you what, let's meet at WGS Saturday. You wear the Kermit the Frog outfit(the logical, rational, peaceful personality), and I'll wear a 'Animal' outfit(frenzied, out of control, screaming type fan). That way we know who each other is without asking. THEREFORE, we keep our anonymity intact, and won't have to admit each other is right. WIN-WIN.

Well they rank 1-16 out of the 24 so first rounds are still regionalized for cost purposes, so 8-16 will play a home game and they will match up the least amount of travel. Given flight issues probably not the worst thing this year. Regionalization should have no effect round 2 and beyond.

This is the most obviously reasonable way to settle this. I'll go pick my Kermit costume up from the cleaners.

Anyways, this will all be settled in a couple days. Going to be a great one! I know a rematch has been discussed, but I'm not sure my heart can handle all of that!
I have a workable solution. In this day and age of homeless bums everywhere you turn, you could watch the Griz-scat game in the waiting room of your favorite Emergency Room. Thata way you can blow out your heart, they might be able to resuscitate you, and you'll wake up sometime later in a hospital room. Just find the remote control and do it all over again.
Or, you'll wake up, the TV will be playing the same moment you dropped, with the Griz kicking scat ass, and you won't be able to watch anything else, the remote only plays that game, over and over and over.
Hint: You ain't in Heaven Scatboy!
Or, you'll wake up to a scat victory, and when you say, "OOOH-YEAH!!! POOOOOOOOOR GRIZZLIES!!! POOOOOOOOOR GRIZZLIES!!!, a distant, stern voice will say, "That's what I thought...' and the TV will turn to the Griz kicking scat ass, over and over and over again.
Hint:___________________________!

If Davis loses to Sac, and the GRIZ beat cats. GRIZ would have three wins over playoff teams and Cats would have on being NAU.
Cats would have one loss to a team that didn’t make the playoffs and GRIZ would be undefeated.

That’s another thing the pundits can’t wrap their mind around is Sac with all their talent was not an easy out and could very likely end up a playoff team. They are 5-1 since the poly game with their lone loss to us. Poly did beat them and gave both MSU and us a game. So 7-2 since the Nevada game which was contentious and controversial.

Poly gave us a game? We were winning 20-3 after 3 quarters. lol.

I’m not sure if it’s the pundits not wrapping their head around it, or if it doesn’t matter because it’s speculation. Your guys scenario above could happen. It could also work out that cats beat the griz and both NAU and Davis both make playoffs as well. Maybe SDSU ends their slide and committee sees they got QB1 back and puts them in the field?

Point is, even if any of those things happened, how could it possibly matter? Griz win and Cats are probably a 4 or 5 seed. Cats win and Griz are probably a 3 seed and we likely play again in a few weeks

Yes it all gets settled tomorrow. Point was Sac may be better than anyone you beat on your schedule or it could be that Davis and NAU will be better wins in the end. Only one side of that was discussed as an option.

Yes poly gave you a game. Not your usual run up the score game. They played stingy defense in the first half of both games. Shut out the griz in the first half and held you guys to 13 in the first half. They forced the cats into 2 punts, a turnover on downs, 1 touchdown and 2 field goals and would have held you to 10 if it wasn’t for an interception giving a short field at the end of the half. Forced the Griz into 4 punts, a turnover on downs, and an interception in the first half pitching a shutout. Wulff is a good coach. And I pointed this out because he came in and challenged both teams and forced some problems.

There’s a few things about this game X’s and O’s wise that should make Griz nation both nervous and excited as hell.

We faced a tough 4-2-5 defense similar to the cats defense when we played North Dakota week 3(game 2). Griz struggled against that defense all day. We were determined to run the ball early and often and North Dakota was hell bent on stopping the run. It was tough sledding and we didn’t see much success with the offense. North Dakota did what the cats likely won’t do and that’s bring up 5 guys on the line consistently and if not they were bringing 6 in run blitzes in early downs then bringing guys off the edge for passing pressure on 2nd and 3rd and longs. That should give us all concern. We gave up far too much pressure and didn’t find much success in the run game. However, we didn’t know where our strength really were at that point and it was KAY’s coming out party in the second half. We started to open it up and put the game on his shoulders and as those safeties got drawn continuously up to the line we started to go over the top and in the soft zones in the middle. Culminating in that last minute TD and win.

I would look to the Sac game to see what we should see in our personnel and a complete game effort. Taco is fast, but he is not All American track fast. Even if we give up big plays and yards I don’t think we see that break away like we did against sac. Sac’s offense is similar to the the cars run schemes and styles. They mix it up with a variety of looks and attack points. Poly made the cats go to the air more often than they like and Lamson struggled early in their game. I see us doing the same. They have weapons in the receiver group especially with the Freshman Woods coming on. Sell out to stop the run, bring pressure and make them check down to Lencioni and beat us underneath with tight coverage.

The cats have looked susceptible to big receivers in man or some of their cover 2 stuff on the outside and up. We need to blow the top off this defense when they play up to stop the run. Wortham will be the guy to wreak havoc underneath and extend short routes into big plays, but Hendrix/Davis and Bohannon need to be tasked with running the safeties off. I look for us to really spread them out when we are in 4 wide or empty sets(the pod brought up a scenario I see playing out today). The TEs need to have their best game in the run game as well as augmenting the pass when it’s open.

Really hoping we have a healthy Tolbert in the middle. Expect to see him, Wing and Otlewski most of the game. Would really be excited to see our true starting secondary at corners and safeties, but not sure we will. If we do see Loud back, how rusty is he, and is he up to game speed. If not, have the young guys got enough reps to hold the fort down? I expect regardless that all of our complaints about not blowing teams out, and Bobby mixing many guys in early and often in conference play will come to fruition. Hopefully it was chess when others were playing checkers. Someone up front has to be a difference maker. Schwartz has been quiet for a few weeks, but Detrick/Peck are playing great. All the guys at DT need to have an impact and push and force holes to move wide.

Go Griz, FTC

Any time Taco or Woods does a fly sweep take them down hard.
Maintain assignments on D line to not allow Lamson a hole to
run thru and lay the wood to him on any options. If he is a runner
let him know.
Is Lamson enough of a runner to have a spy? In other words, I would spy Lamson.
