Montana State Bobcats scouting report

Sooooo, exactly what The Griz have been doing en route to 42 ppg this season? More QB passing yards and touchdowns at this point in the season than any QB in Bobby 2.0? Come on, man. You're ignoring reality to spin a narrative. The Griz have been doing EXACTLY what you are demanding they do....
I personally would like to see more jet sweeps or even toss plays against a packed box, feel like we barely have done that and adding that along with a potent passing attack would be even better for our Offense. Eli or Monte in space with the speed to outrun LBs and going up against DBs is a matchup I'd take every time.

That and Kay running the ball more often on the RPOs, which he seems to be doing alot more the last few weeks and it's worked well. I understand why they told him not to early in the year but I feel we will need him to run it more starting this week.

i went over there for a look. as far as i can tell, everybody believes that the sdsu loss is not an indicator of the quality of the bobs, but the times the griz played ranked teams that are now unranked shows that those teams were always not very good, so beating them when they were ranked means nothing.
I'll say this - the fcs is as weak right now as it's ever been & the BSC is a joke. There's 3 teams that can win the natty, 2 are in MT. All the conjecture right now is just bs - strength of schedule, teams rank when played, stats, all of it. What matters comes Saturday. After that, they may meet again & if so, hopefully in Nashville. Good lucking the playoffs Griz fans, looking forward to a great game.

Ignoring the fact that the Griz contributed to each one of them not being ranked anymore!

Try as one might, he will NEVER be Junior. He’s good, don’t get me wrong…but he’ll never equal what Bergen did.
I both agree and disagree at the same time. It's highly unlikely Taco can take over games as a specialist like Junior. You guys were winning games in the playoffs pretty much due to this one guy. I've never seen anything like it.

However the part where Taco owns pretty much every FCS record by the end of next year if he stays is also true. Amazing both these guys are from Billings Montana.

He’s gonna have more PR TD’s?

Maybe. He's got 4 and I think he'll finish this year with 5. Just a hunch. Needs to get to 8 to tie and 9 to break. Remember Junior got 2 in a single playoff game to tie the record, so these things can be streaky.

I think he'll break the BSC record for total return yards before the end of the season. He'll track down the total yards for FCS next year.

Just as you're ignoring the fact that SDSU is only doing poorly because of injuries.

Imagine if Ah Yat, Wortham, and Wing were all hurt at the same time. Probably wouldn't be undefeated. SDSU clearly has some depth issues, and likely weren't as good as we thought to begin with as well. Now, I'm a biased Cat fan, and I think MSU has gotten a lot better as the season has progressed. Will it be good enough to beat UM in WaGriz? I hope so! We'll find out on Saturday.

Regardless of what happens, this is a state matchup between two of the best teams in the nation. I couldn't be more excited for it! Going to be a ton of fun.

If SDSU was so quality they wouldn’t have completely tanked with one injury. Both the cats and griz have had seasons lessened by losing a starting QB, but never losing to Indiana State or 4(possibly 5) in a row bad.

Hence why I included Wortham and Wing in my example. Ya know, because SDSU didn't have just one injury. Their QB, and apparently only good one on the roster, got injured. Their best WR, injured. Their best LB, injured. I'm pretty certain they had a starting DL miss a few games as well, but I'm honestly too lazy to doublecheck that, so I didn't throw it in.

Anyways, this will all be settled in a couple days. Going to be a great one! I know a rematch has been discussed, but I'm not sure my heart can handle all of that!

Time will tell

I don't think you guys need to bend over backwards this much for SDSU.

They're currently a bad team. Probably going to miss the playoffs.

I don't think they were ever very good. Clearly they were overrated at #2. The #2 team doesn't turn into the #40 team just because they lost a couple players, even their starting QB.

You guys probably weren't that good at the beginning of the year, either, but you're sure as hell a lot better now. It happens, look at us in 2023.

Do you seriously think SDSU would keep it within 30 of you guys in Bozeman if you played right now? I don't.

I wouldn't disagree with anything you're saying. I probably would say that they were better at the beginning of the season than you think, mainly because they had some good line play, but without a doubt they are a flat bad team right now, even if Mason comes back healthy. They shouldn't be a playoff team.

Until our Montana teams are placed in opposite sides of the bracket, they’ll never play in the natty. The policy of keeping geographic travel affordability a factor in brackets is a stupid, unfair concept.

Not denying anything about SDSU's woes. I doubt there are many teams at any level that overcome their situation. Injuries are a wild card every year.

You're right of course. For me it just feels like a good sign that the biggest talking point about the Cats is a game we lost in 2 overtimes almost 3 months ago.

It didn't matter that we lost, just like it wouldn't have mattered if we beat them by 30. We're not close to the same team we were then but I think that's obvious and most likely why that game gets brought up endlessly.

Anyone who has been watching Griz-Cat for the last 40+ years and knows anything about this rivalry knows that you can't predict what's going to happen Saturday on the previous 9, 10, or 11 games. I've seen dominant Cats teams come to Missoula and lose by double digits plus. Same for the Griz. Both teams know each other so well, they could probably call each others' plays. It comes down to who executes better on Saturday.

I love that the talking point from all season has been that quality loss. Leon clearly sold that to the committee too. You guys are the ones that have brought it up ad nauseam. I’ll gladly talk about your quality wins if you prefer?
