Big Sky Conference ESPN 2 Night games Fri/Sat??

I seen that the Griz vs Sac St Friday night game had about 190k viewership, while NDSU and SDSU on ESPN U had about 80k for its Saturday game. What do people think, if the Big Sky were to start having Friday and maybe some Saturday night games, as sort of the new "PAC After Dark?" Do we care if we have late night games? Does having late night games lessen the exposure potential for the conference? Would it have an effect on Missoula economy less/more hotel stays, game-day operations, game attendance, etc? Besides conference fans, whom else would this cater to? Could the conference produce enough high-end matchups to make this a thing?

I'm of the opinion that every home game we play before mid October should be a night game, or at the very least start in the late afternoon. I hate roasting under the sun in September.

I don't see us getting a gig with ESPN to do Friday/Saturday night games any more than the usual 3-4 the Big Sky currently gets, but I'd be happy if we could.

But I do kind of hate the 8:30pm kickoff games. That's extremely late, even if I myself don't much mind staying up late.

Why? I would far rather watch the games from the comfort of my own home, on my own TV (that I can control as I want), with my own food and booze.
Exactly. Spending extra money to watch the game in a loud environment where you can't control the volume or pause (or rewind) the TV doesn't sound like any kind of fun to me. But to each his own I guess.

Youtube dropped ESPN at the exact hour of kickoff of the Idaho/NAU game on 10/31, and that game was not on ESPN +, only on ESPN2. Fool's errand to set up a whole season around a network that is subject to drastic changes that rob subscribers of seeing the game at the drop of a corporate hat.

You mean Youtube right?

I think the Montana schools are one of the few FCS programs that are able to draw strong crowds for Friday/Saturday night games on ESPN2. While 8:15-8:30 PM kickoffs are pretty late (I'm saying that and I'm in my late 30s now haha), it's absolutely worth it for the exposure. I'd be happy if Montana had 3 ESPN2 games in a regular season.

I'm willing to bet that we will be seeing at least 1 or 2 night games in the playoffs in WA-Griz this year, possibly 3 (assuming we lock the #2 seed and make it to the semis).

The incident referenced on 10/31 was with YoutubeTV. I think the problem could recur with any network, thus set up schedule for the team and fans, not the network, is my thought.
It was from a negotiation between the Disney and YouTube. Sounds like both networks and platforms are part of the issue. ESPN isn't the only network currently in this position with YouTube, it is all Disney Company networks.

Disney owns Hulu and just purchased Fubo TV, so they're trying to push their streaming platform, and conveniently it falls around the same time as contract negotiations with YouTubeTV, so what better way to get extra money out of YouTubeTV and/or more subscribers who jump ship to HuluLive? Problem is, Disney is getting most of the bad publicity/press in this, and I read somewhere that they're losing close to $5 million/day over this, and YouTubeTV subscribers are jumping to platforms like Sling who offer a daily $5 pass to watch ESPN while keeping YouTubeTV. Now Pat McAfee just announced College GameDay will be streamed on his channel (YouTube I think?) as well as ESPN+. Talk about thinking you had a plan to gain more viewership that turned into the most epic backfire.

But this isn't a new issue, and Disney isn't alone. Hate the game.

This has happened with the sec network, the big ten network, etc. Does it suck? Yes. Is it espn's fault? Only partly. Is it only an espn problem. Hell no.
