Hey, look at us - Cats are dominating the Big Sky and FCS (say some Cat fans)

Yes, we lost to SDSU, who have now lost a few games. Yes, we lost to them in Bozeman.

Yes, we only beat 3-6 Mercyhurst 17-0, but we thumped 5-4 U San Diego (who lost by 24 to Cal Poly). And Mercyhurst is 236 out of 265 in the Sagarin, and not at the very bottom this season, as in the past.

But look how we have beaten the weaker teams in the Big Sky. We've beaten the 5th, 6th, 8th, 9th and 10th teams in the conference, with Sagarin ratings of 150, 180, 185, 190 and 200. One of those 5 teams actually has a winning record 5-4. And those teams are 18-27 record for season.

And we get good stats for our players when we play our starting QB and starting running back when we are up 55-0 half way thru the 4th Q.

I love these posts.....
Appreciate you logging in to say so. eGRIZ thanks you.

But why do you love them? Are you possibly suggesting hoops' post is inaccurate? Because I'd bet any amount of money you're willing to lose that I could jump on bcn (I won't) and find at least 150 posts on the first two pages talking about how much stronger msu's schedule is than Montana's.

Cat fans are now changing tune a bit to "SOS is not a huge deal" .
I also enjoyed their fans voting in a name poll for a name not included in the poll.
They have a real FOMO vibe!
There are some Griz fans on social media that I wish would shut up or pick a new team too, so it is all fan bases.

You'd be exactly right, although every one of those 150 posts has been generated by successful trolling from whoever "OldGriz" is. Arguing Cats vs Griz strength of schedule is so incredibly pointless when all that will matter for playoff seeding purposes is the result of the game in 19 days.

Much of the discussion on egriz has come from posters countering arguments by Cats that their SOS is better than UM's, or that UM has had a weak schedule. But for this fact, I generally agree with your post. But when Cats say something wrong or stupid, I, and many others, respond. And some Cat posters are really good at saying incorrect or stupid things.

Wouldn't know as I don't visit bcn. How long till oldGriz gets band from that site? 3 days?

I haven't read all of what's posted on eGriz, but I'll take your word for it. In my opinion, both teams have played pretty weak schedules largely because of how bad the Big Sky is this year outside the state of Montana.

Cats have not beaten any teams other than weak teams, and not just in the Big Sky. Griz have played slightly better BS teams and beaten a couple of good or decent MV teams including the team that beat SDSU last weekend. I agree that neither school has had a tough schedule (excluding the 2 teams the Cats were beaten by). I may have said that Tarleton's schedule isn't very tough (and I saw the whole Army game, and wasn't impressed with Tarleton, but I doubt that I have ever tried to argue that the Griz are better than the Cats based on SOS. Nor have I made that argument this year. Again, essentially agreeing with your view.

I think the Griz are probably better than the Cats, but that is based on paying attention to the Cats only early in the season and then only glancing at box score stats as well as having watched the Griz carefully. I also believe the Griz will beat the Cats. The Griz are improving and playing pretty well now, still with potential to get better. Wish we had the corner Loud. UM's linebackers are very good, and Peck and Solo are tremendous players. Watch Peck run down a Weber receiver about 30 yards downfield when the Griz let the receiver get past them. That was a Biermann kind of play. I'm pretty sure it was a receiver and not a TE. The UM DL is deep. The safeties are good. The corners are pretty good with Loud, but not as good without him. The OL is really knocking defenders off the ball and protecting Ah Yat. UM has given up only 4 sacks in the last 4 games, after giving up more early in the season. The RB's are terrific. The receivers are good and getting better. Ah Yat is playing well and keeps improving. Wortham is pretty much amazing. The punter/kicker is good. Just needs to clean up a few short FG's. The ST's are very good.

I suppose guys are hurt or playing hurt, but it doesn't seem like injuries have been awful at all. The Griz have the best coaching staff in the conference. And the best fans. And the best message board posters.

We’re surprisingly low key this year. Almost boring on the ole BN lately. scoreboard against common opponents is an indicator that the Griz still haven’t figured out how to play all four quarters.
Nobody is talking about difficulty of schedules…. Not a team in the conference will touch either Montana team till we play each other. It’s felt like a very easy schedule for us this year outside of the start of The season.

Me thinks from here on out, the only thing that will really sway the SOS for one team one way or the other is the OOC games. I’m sure each year there will be one more decent Big Sky team, but aside from the Montana schools the Big Sky is a quagmire of mediocrity.

The Griz did not start the season out well at all. With the exception of Indiana State, they struggled through six games, having to play the role of come from behind heroes in order to get where they are.

There are still three games left in the regular season. Anything can happen on any Saturday. I am not going to be an obnoxious cocky Griz fan. I am not going to say anything because I am superstitious but it doesn't take much to tank a season.

From what I have watched, MSU is not great on offense. In fact I think this is probably the most average, vanilla offense they have fielded in years.

Now, the Defense is a different story. The Puds defense is very good, very very good. I think this is going to be a year that is a barn burner game. UM's defense is okay at best. Lemmy Lamson is good enough to rip up the Griz secondary, and they will get some big runs on the Griz because of the stupid blitz every down approach.

But, The Puds haven't played an offense like Montana. They can hit anywhere. Concentrate on shutting down Gillman/Rocker/Fonoti and you get a dose of Wortham/Deck. Shut down Wortham and you get a TE attack, manage to shut all of that down and KAY can get you with his feet. I haven't seen this balanced of a Griz offense in pretty close to 20 years.

I just wish the defense was better.

Maybe the struggles are why the committee has the Griz behind the Cats? It's interesting that you don't think the Cats are great on offense, but I get it given the incredible running teams of the recent past. In conference games they have 2059 rushing yards and 1990 passing, almost exactly 50/50. 50/50 seems pretty good to me but I miss the unstoppable rushing attack. The Griz have about 400 more total yards, but are 62/38% rushing to passing. I doubt Bobby prefers this but it's winning games. Griz have the top passer in FBS, but Lamson is completing 72% of his passes & has a tremendous efficiency rating - even better than Ah Yat's. Ah Yat has 19 passing td's, Lamson has16 in a balanced offense. Not sure about rushing TD's but I'm confident Lamson leads Ah Yat because he gets designed running plays. In the recent past MSU's the top heavy rushing teams would be criticized for not being balanced & not able to pass or come from behind. That's changed, but they haven't had to come from behind & the committee, who watches games, knows all of this.

On D Colter said the Cat's Dbacks and safetys are the best in the league, as is the D line by a long shot. Cats have one of the best D's in the FCS. They've allowed 147 points in conference play, Griz 210. When you watch a Cat game it's the most obvious part of the game - their dominance on D.

When I watch the Cats seem to be the better team - constant pressure on D, few lapses, and the O methodically grinding out yards and scoring. Griz O is explosive and can score from anywhere at anytime. Griz D is not up to a typical Griz D at this time, but can get better. I see this as the difference.

So who wins Cat/Griz? Griz should be favored with WaGriz & the crazies creating penalties. But man, that Cat D is just stout. I sure don't see a blow out.
