Perspective

Defense doesn't win championships
Offense doesn't win championships
ST doesn't win championships
Coaching doesn't win championships

TEAMS win championships

And championships are won in November,December and January.

I'm starting to believe we'll be playing in January.

Think about this...NDSU intercepted Youngstown State at YSUs 19. 4 plays and score. Then they recover a botched KR fumble on the ensuing kickoff at the YSU 9. Two plays and score. Then after a YSU drive and TD score, NDSU returns the kickoff for a TD. NDSU scored 21 points on short fields and special teams. If not for those 21 points, YSU beats them. My point is not that NDSU should not have won the game because we all know the plays on the field are what decide the final score. The point is that if you play disciplined football (i.e. no turnovers or explosive special teams play) you can beat NDSU. The other thing I noticed is that YSU was playing even and odd man fronts on the Dline depending on the down and distance. They were making it difficult for the hairy cows Oline to get comfortable with their blocking schemes.

I would expect nothing less from you.
I’ve been very complimentary of our football team. I just can’t ignore the elephant in the room that is our defense 🤷‍♂️. We have such a sweet offense. I think that offense can take us to and even win us a natty, IF they play a full four quarter game at their very best. They can do it. That offense of the first quarter today is dang near unstoppable. Problem is they sometimes disappear for a quarter or two….. I’ve just thought MSU looks like the most complete team to me at this point in the season. That’s not to say we can’t beat them at home, we can and we freaking better. But if they played on a neutral field tomorrow, my money would be on the team with the defense

This is an interesting thread. Both Griz and Cats are very good teams. This brawl should be a good one. Yes, Griz playing at home is a big advantage. Great to see two Montana teams this year have a real chance to win against the Dakotas. This is going to be the year. NDSU is not looking as strong this year.

No explanation necessary.

You always get overconfident. Just like last year. But I know you really don’t play the game so it doesn’t matter as much what you think.
I have never been overconfident with the Griz. Never once. I always pick the Griz to beat the Cats. That is not overconfidence. That is rivalry talk. You are a total dumbshit. And you don’t have a clue about football.

Yeah, I can see that you think SDSU is not a legit comp. But, if you are paying real close attention. We were starting the year with a new QB, new OC and entirely fucked up o-line with injured starting center. Offense has been improving a lot later in the season and o-line is healthy and playing their assigned positions.

Facts are MSU is allowing 11 points per game in FCS, and a double OT 30 pts is skewing up that numerator.

If you want a common opponent. We throttled lSU…. 34-14 by halftime and they scored 0.0 points H2. A team the Griz TRAILED for 2+ quarters until the final two mins.

Make no mistake, I think the Griz are a good team this year. But the Cats improving and mostly dominating. FFS, Cats are averaging 500+ yrds and 45 pts per game last three games - not exactly slouchy offense.
Cats dominated Mercyhurst? Cats dominated SDSU? That’s pretty funny.

We will see how Cats dominate Davis.

Every team play ls with OL “out of position”. That’s not a F-upped OL. You obviously don’t understand football and never played the game.

You say: "Cats improving and mostly dominating". Huh

Cats have lost 2 games. They didn't dominate those games. Cats barely beat Mercyhurst, who are 3-6 and rated 235 by Sagarin coming into today. USD is 6th in the Pioneer conference and 216 in the Sagarin. Cats have played the 5th, 6th, 8th, 9th and 10th teams in the Big Sky. Sagarin coming into today rated those teams 169, 144, 196, 173 and 186. I'm glad you are proud of beating up on ISU, the 196th rated team.

The Cats should be dominating those teams. None of them are any good. At least, the Griz beat UND and Idaho, who are much better than any team the Cats have beaten.

You say some of the dumbest things.

Let’s bet $100 on the Griz-Cat game. Straight up.

The cats are beating the shit out of teams for sure but they don't have any really good wins on the resume. The best win they have is 5-4 NAU. They lost to SDSU who is clearly not who we thought they were.

They're a top 4 team no doubt but just penciling them into the Natty because they looked good against NoCo is silly. They have not played an offense like the Montana Grizzlies all season. If they shut us down in 3 weeks then I'll eat crow and hand them their flowers but until not before then.
The cats can beat terrible teams like no one else in the nation, they have done this for the last 5 years. They are 0-2 vs good teams this year. They still have a lot to prove.

It’s not that they’ve looked good in their wins, it’s that they’ve looked dominant. They’re consistent. They don’t take entire quarters off offensively. They play a steady brand of defense that is no nonsense, smothering, and effective. Our schedule isn’t exactly murderers row, and we’re giving up points in bunches. You’re correct that they’ve not played an offense like ours, but I’d counter that we’ve not played a defense like theirs. Their DBs and DL are better BY FAR, than any we’ve faced this season. They’ve given up a third of the points that the Griz defense has against similar in conference foes. I’m looking at this as a clear alerted Griz fan. We’ve got a better offense for sure, but defense wins championships, and they’ve got a damn good defense. 🤷‍♂️

Griz used 3 QB’s, 5 RB’s, and 9 different players caught passes. 26 players recorded tackles. Gillman & Ah Yat sat for the 4th quarter.

Bobcats starting QB was still playing up 48-0. Adam Jones was still playing up 55-0. The two coaching philosophies are NOT the same.

Scoring and yards might be the two most misleading stats to use to validate a team’s performance/dominance.

Are you going to tell us who your $ is on later in November?

Will you be taking bets?

it’s in Missoula, I’m betting on the good guys. Griz win in a classic. I can’t pick against my team on their home turf. If it was in bozo I’d probably take the cats though.

I too get frustrated when Bobby decides not to put the hammer down, cause I do think we could’ve easily done that today. That said, I do admire that he’s developing depth and playing a lot of guys. That’s especially important with no bye and a long season. It’s kept us fairly healthy so far. Would I have loved to beat Weber 50-3 today? Yes I would, but it’s hard to fault Bobby for what he’s doing. Just wish the backups on D could get a few more stops.

I agree. Not the Dakotas’ year.

Almost every fan with an untrained eye for the finer details of the game will see what you see and say what you say. I'm not trying to talk shit to you, but I don't think you see all the little things that the coaches are doing for this defense to be successful. Our Defense is exactly where they need to be at this point of the season and are progressing perfectly for what the coaches are trying to accomplish in the long run. i don't have the time to breakdown all the little things the coaches on offense and defense are doing to be successful when December rolls around. But Coach Hauck and his assistants do have a great plan in place and are on pace improving each week and handling a no bye season perfectly.

Maybe not, but I’m not all sour grapes as you seem to think. I think we’ve got the best qb and rb and wr trio in the country. How’s that for sugar? We have one of the best if not the very best offense in the FCS. If it’s humming it as sweet of an offense that you’re going to see at this level.
