maybe somebody remembers this better than i do - there used to be a catholic high school in bozeman that played class c football (i think) in the 60's/70's. i think it was called rosemary high school or something like that, and i remember them playing a championship game in the fieldhouse in the 70's, when the weather was abysmal. if i remember correctly (hah), the field they used was 80 yards long, and possibly dirt. can anybody fill in the blanks for me? gracias :)

"rosemary high school" Holy Rosary :)

The Fieldhouse definitely had a dirt floor in 1969. Cowboy version of Beach Volleyball back then. I'm still spittin' dirt.

Rosary had some good teams. Especially basketball. I was at Bozeman high then.

“Holy Rosary of Bozeman won a Class C football title in 1973 and won two of its three boys basketball championship appearances in the 1960s. A 71-game conference winning streak by the Bulldogs boys basketball team was counted as one of the state's top ten sports stories of the 1960s. Despite its success, the school closed in 1976 after financial troubles, and was demolished in 1980.”

Old Catholic High Schools in Montana. Lewistown St Leo's Trojans (closed early 80's), Miles City Sacred Heart Shamrocks (closed 1986)., Holy Rosary in Bozeman and there was also Anaconda and Helena Central's at one time. Might have been more.

Great Falls Central.

Miles City Sacred Heart. He was friends with Bobby Hauck’s dad.

In 1960, Connors began a 15-year stint at Miles City Sacred Heart where his football teams were 113-15 and his basketball teams were 264-101 and both won numerous conference, district, divisional and state titles. He won Coach of the Year honors in both sports.

From 1974-1993, Connors was athletic director and head men’s basketball coach at Miles City Community College. He was named the Mon-Dak Coach of the Year twice. Connors was inducted into the Montana Coaches Hall of Fame in 1984.

Connors followed his brother Bill into the Bulldog Hall of Fame. His son-in-law Rik Rewerts was inducted in 1992 and his grandson Nik Rewerts followed in 2022.”

Helena Central closed in 1969 and the former Catholic structure/facility became Helena Capital in 1973. It retained much of the culture and student population of the former Helena Central. From its inception it was a pipeline to Carroll College. This may be less true today than it was in the late 70's and 80's. Bobby Petrino for instance, would likely have attended Helena Central had it stayed open. He attended and graduated at Capital and went directly to Carroll, where his father Bob Sr coached from 1971-1998.

As an old Polson Pirate I played against Dillon and Anaconda Central on a basketball overnighter. Coach took us to Lydias for dinner. AC girls cute and full of pep. Bib deal for the class B Pirates.

I have Great memories of playing for Coach Connors. Sacred Heart was a dominant force in football and basketball in the 60’s and 70’s. Winning State Championships in Basketball1965 and Football in1980.
(Football did not play state championships in Class C or Class B until 1973)
Maybe one of the most impressive records for SHHS football is the 13 consecutive conference championships and 99 conference wins in a row that ran from 1962-1974.
