Bobby Hauck

Man, look around the the landscape of college and the NFL with how many young coaches under 40 have been successful. The game is evolving so much. Colt Anderson would be a name I would bring up. I would also bring up a name like Kyle Sampson who has done very well at Tech and has ties throughout the country being related to the Petrinos.

most posters just wanted to challenge a few point instead of having a conversation about the trajectory of the program. It seems like it really triggers some by the tone of posts.

I am good. It’s crazy how this question is off limits for some reason
It isn't off limits, people are just disagreeing with you. Toughen up if you throw out debate points on Egriz, lol. As Brint once posted, it is a hive of scum and villainy. ;)

If your point was that Bobby Hauck hasn't won a title, and therefor has not gotten over the hump, you are now suggesting replacing him with a coach that has never won a national title at any lower level and has never coached in the FCS. Come on, man. That is just a complete failure in logic.

Colt Anderson is great. He has also never, ever been a head coach. You would turn over the reins of this program on a dice roll like that?! While suggesting that the winningest coach in our conferences history is replaceable? Colt has spent a total of ONE year as a special teams coordinator. He has never even been a position coach, yet. He has never coached college football. How is the record of NFL coaches going to college? No hate for Colt Anderson, but if you are trying to make the claim that he would be a better head coach to win a national title than Bobby Hauck, what on EARTH are you basing that on other than needing to come up with a name and not having better ones?

Honestly, my man, it feels like you started out trying to make a point and are just digging in to avoid re-thinking this and realizing you were wrong. Hauck has been an incredibly successful coach here. I used to doubt that more in 1.0, because I felt like he was handed the keys to a Ferrari. He came back in 2018 and has completely rebuilt it back to being a national contender.

Not hurt feelings here, just engaging with your question. You aren't providing anything other than subjective "well, I think maybe...." And that's totally cool, but you should go back to your original post. If a coach isn't "elite" without winning a national title, wouldn't you need to be picking a coach WITH a national title to replace Bobby with?

Says who? You? What do you know about football and defense?
Not very much. That's why I'm on this board--to learn from people like you. But I am a student of patterns. And a pattern I've noticed is that Bobby struggles with teams he should beat more convincingly, and rarely beats the likes of NDSU etc. No NC's in all his years. UM has THE elite facility of FCS, and quite a lot of FBS doesn't compare. I feel he rides the coattails of our facility and town.

I enjoy engaging with you, Elrod. However, I can gauge the tone of others and they seem to think I have an agenda, which is completely untrue. Bobby was never a head coach before he came here either. I thought he was the only hire to make in 2018 and had a mess to clean up. I will always support whoever is at the helm of this program. I will always support the program. As many have stated we are 6-0 and likely headed for a top 3 seed. Hope to meet you on game day someday for a beer.

I enjoy engaging with you, as well, and I appreciate your ability to do so without getting personal. Would absolutely love to grab a beer. Heck, UofMman and Titlest keep leading me on about grabbing one at the T&C for some good Griz talk. Maybe you and I need to beat them to it, lol.

You're right, he had not been a head coach before he came here. Totally true. But the logic just doesn't track for me when you say you have been pondering if he can get the team over the hump and naming other guys who have also not achieved that. I guess that was a much less long winded version of my point.

Which other coaches have done better this century with the facilities and our town? Because Joe Glenn isn't walking back in that door.

The question isn't off limits if there is a valid reason for it. It's very difficult to win a championship and some Apiffany that came out of a dream is no reason to say a coach who is probably going to be inducted into more than one hall of fame needs to be cast adrift.
You can't just name a coach and say you want them to take over this program. Does Colt Anderson have interest in the job? I don't believe he has the resume just yet and he'd have a lot more responsibility for a whole lot less pay if he did. You don't pluck a coach out of the NFL and bring them to this level very often, and if you look at the history of the Big Sky, a big name doesn't make a big splash in any sport here. They come to the Big Sky to move up and out, not drop down to stay.
I have no doubt that this has been talked about before on egriz, probably at the end of the 2022 season.

Absolutely, I’m in for sure. I’ll PM you next time in Missoula.

I can admit I was making a leap in my original post by the fact how I used the criteria for elite coaches.

I hear ya. I have no idea if he has interest or not, but might. It’s a much better life raising a family in Missoula. Doesn’t Colt have a more impressive resume than Bobby did when he first became head coach? Either way, I’m not advocating for the firing of Coach Bobby Hauck.

Oof, catching strays out here, but duly noted! lol

We'll figure it out soon. :)

You are comparing those 2 to Bobby Hauck? Now that’s funny.

Not even in the same ball park, to be honest. Colt has been a special teams assistant for three years and a coordinator for one year. His unit with the Titans was the worst in the NFL, but I don't blame him for bad personnel. He also coached Butte High for a year, and lost in the title game, which is something you argue is a knock on Bobby. That is a VERY thin resume for a college head coach.

On the other hand, Bobby got the job after being a position coach, ST coordinator, and recruiting coordinator at the college level for 15 years.

i am pretty sure anderson was a volunteer coach at butte high school, not the head coach or a coordinator or anything of the sort. i agree that it is silly to consider him a candidate to be a head coach at this level. maybe a special teams coordinator. i think that if samson wants to be a head coach at the division 1 level, he'd probably need to start out as a coordinator or something of that nature. if he turns out to be excellent, then maybe he'd have a chance at an hc job in a few years. i'm guessing he's around 40 now, so if that is his goal perhaps he should 'move up' sooner than later, or at least that's my uneducated guess.

To be fair he didn’t have a ton of input when he was here for the year. He was back in Butte and wanted to help. He was very valuable but didn’t change any schemes or anything. He’s a young guy that wants to coach for his career and a very good mind. Like you said you can’t fault him in Tennessee he didn’t have much to work with. I am happy we aren’t living in the mid 2010’s anymore and happy where the program is at right now. Some coaches have a hard time winning the big games for whatever reason. Bobby has won plenty of them. Who knows if he even wants to coach at this level. It is a different game completely and might not be able to adjust quick enough. Who knows. Bobby is here to stay and rightfully so.

I am pretty excited to see Penn St hire some guy with no FBS head coaching experience because he has a more impressive resume than James Franklin did when he was first hired.

It’s will be interesting. You have to start somewhere and someone has to give you opportunity. Most of these high level coaches innrhe FBS and NFL started as position coach or analyst role.

Yeah, I doubt that is the path they take. They are going to flash cash to an established FBS head coach.
