Has Bobby taking this program as far as he can? I have been thinking about this ever since the firing of James Franklin. Bobby has been a very successful coach here at Montana and probably one of the best in FCS history. However, it doesn't feel like we are gaining any momentum to win National Championships. He is going to give us 8-10 wins every year, and every 5 years maybe get to 12 or 13. I am generally curious what others think about how far Bobby can take this football program. He has had 14 years at the helm with 0 National titles and only 1 conference championship since returning. In my opinion Bobby is a very good coach, but not elite. I am sure I will get flamed for this take. I think people are scared of what it looks like without Bobby, but there are a ton of young minds that could take this thing to the next level. Look how young coordinators are getting in major programs and the NFL. Just my opinion.

What a strange, trolling post. Seems lime something we'd see after a season is over.

The BH-led Griz are undefeated entering the 2nd half of the season.

I don't think you'll get consensus on what "elite" means, but BH is clearly in the very top echelon of FCS coaches. This is not arguable.

The biggest measurable I've seen this season is the in-game and halftime adjustments made. The staff is firing on all cylinders right now.

How about we enjoy it?

Bold and amazing take at the midpoint of a 6-0 start

Nothing trolling about it. I posed a question to the forum. I think it's a valid question. I also think he is a very good coach and not asking for him to be fired. Do I think he should be a lifer in this job, I do not hold that belief.

I don't know how they are firing on all cylinders yet, but have played good against marginal competition. We still have no idea how good this team is yet. I want to win National Championships. Elite to me is taking the program he inherited and winning a few National Championships.

So there is like 1 elite coach at the FCS level currently?

What do you think? I am sure there are a few that will jump to FBS and have success. Chris Klieman had a pretty good run, Willie Fritz is doing well, Billy Napier had a ton of success after leaving the FCS as an assistant, and I would say Curt Cignetti is pretty successful.

I think it's crazy not to have the conversation. Discussion is what this forum is about, right?

You do know what currently means...

To me most important is that the players respect and play hard for a coach. From most accounts I believe the Griz players respect this staff. Those 8-10 wins a year are more wins than 90% of the rest of the teams in college football. The stadium is full every week and tons of money is brought in to Missoula each home game, because of those 10 wins every year.
You state that you want to win national championships, you never will! Your favorite team might but not you, also trust me when I say the coaches and players want to win one waaaaay more than you do.
Biggest problem with national championships is that there is only one won each year and 130 some other teams work very hard to win the same championship the Griz are after.

Social media has had a impact on sports fans. Let me explain, Fans go on FB,X,Insta and other platforms and see fans of other teams posting, boasting, and roasting to other fans and I think feelings get hurt and damnit they want their team to win it all to shut the other fans up.
The last couple years on FB has been hilarious every time something positive is posted about Montana cat fans and bison fans and jack rabbit fans are there to poo poo on the post.
Much of this is brought on by Griz fans, however social media platforms have allowed for fans to be real tools online and develop unrealistic expectations of their favorite team.

I am sure there are a few that will jump to the FBS and have success. this is a stepping stone league for most teams. I don't know why you can't have the discussion. No bid deal.
I used your criteria for what is your definition of "elite" and asked a question which you have yet to answer. Not unexpected from someone that doesn't really want an actual discussion.

Spoken like a true douche Nebraska fan calling for Frank Solich's head after a 58-19 record and one National Championship loss.

I have never asked once for Bobby to be fired. I asked the question and can see some are very hurt about the question. This a pretty tame topic and think it's a useful conversation. However, I can see that a lot of people took it out of context.

As for Nebraska, Frank Solich was getting fired regardless. His offense was regressing every year and fans and administration at that time wanted to get away from the option so they could recruit legit QB's. Bo Pelini was Solich's savior. Nebraska screwed up by not giving Pelini the job.

I think you are missing my point. I am not actively asking for the head of Bobby, nor did i in the post. I don't understand why the conversation is taboo. I like Bobby a ton. This question is asked all over the country everyday, but it seems to be off limits.

To answer your question have no idea who is out there right now, I just know there are a lot of young smart coaches in the country right now. Outside of mentioning not winning any National titles and 1 conference championship I never took a shot at him or his coaches. I have defended Bobby numerous times on this board.
