Sacred Heart...

Well, that Griz team struggled with Butler because they didn't have their shit figured out. If we had played Butler in week 8 with Clif running the offense, I have no doubt we would have demolished them. By that same token, if we are to believe ourselves a legit natty contender this season, we should have no issue with Sacred Heart. Playing a close game against them at this point in the season would be very worrying for those of us that think we can make a run this year.
Agreed. It had better be a blowout. Too late in the season to be playing down to teams.

They aren't the greatest, but certainly not the worst team out there.

Better than Mercyhurst, definitely. Better than San Diego, probably. Better than North Dakota, not even close.
Are you saying they are better than NoDak? I don’t THINK you are, but thats the way it reads.

Another thing I heard in watching the SHU/Howard game was that they moved to Independent as part of their transition to the CAA. Anyone else hear about this? I am not sure what they meant, I didn't realize that teams transitioned to the CAA, seems like they let Albany, Monmouth and all their other additions right on in. I would imagine this also means that is what Merrimack is doing as well.

Not sure, but I think you're right. IMO the CAA has turned into a bloated monster of mostly mediocre to poor teams. They do still have some strong ones, but how long will that last? Also, the conference will have to get really good at their tie-breaker system, because everybody's schedule is so imbalanced.

The CAA didn't require a transition period, it is the path Sacred Heart took. They moved all their sports to a conference that doesn't sponsor football. They decided to go independent for a season to evaluate options.

I watched the SHU (they call themselves shoe or the Pios) vs Howard game this morning. They were touting that Howard's defense is top ten in scoring and points allowed, they really didn't impress me. The running back, Mitchell Summers #20 RB 109 carries for 638 yards and 5 TD’s, 7 receptions for 112 yards, against Howard 18 carries for 243 yards and 2 TD’s. He’s quick and can be dangerous when he gets to the outside and his first score came from the first play from scrimmage in the second half after a false start backed the ball up to the SHU 20. He's not that much of an issue, if he played in the Big Sky, I really don't think he would have half the yardage he has, the only team of significance they have played is Lehigh when they lost 28-10.
Jack Snyder #14 QB, 92/132 for 1,042 yards, 5 TD, 2 Int, 75 carries for 345 yards and 4 TD, against Howard 11/18 for 147 yards, 1 TD, 13 caries for 68 yards. Had designed run of 11and 44 yards so he can move a little as much of the day he was scrambling and taking off with receivers covered. Doesn’t have much for arm strength, two of his 11 completions were jet sweeps and he had a 20 yard completion plus his TD pass went about 20 yards, 5 yards into the end zone.
I question their ability to run their offense in the red zone. They accepted an off sides penalty on a 4 and 1 FG attempt from 22 yards and gained 1 yard on three rushing attempts, none by Summers, and one by the backup QB for no gain, who also had a no gain on the third and one that set up the attempt that resulted in the off sides. On Howard’s next possession, they had a 4 and out where they went for a 4th and 1 on their own 34 for no gain. Took 6 plays to move the ball 25 yards to the Howard 9, then gained just 1 yard on three plays before kicking a 25 yard FG.
#17 Payton Rhoades WR was the leading receiver with 4 catches totaling 71 yards and the TD a long of 25 (13 YAC)

Matt Kling #3 K, 3 FG’s of 49, 19 and 25 yards.

Brint, take this week off... 😆

SHU has never played in our stadium before...or in really chilly weather. I do wish we could be done with playing teams in a come-from-behind fashion. That is super frustrating.
I keep seeing people trying to sell their tickets all over the place, hopefully there isnt empty seats everywhere. The diehards will have to step it up if that's the case!

Hey are we sure that this isn’t all Brint’s fault because the mariners aren’t out of the playoffs, like they usually are at this time of year? Without his typical focus on all things Griz there’s a little too much distraction for my taste. 😉
