There’s a special kind of magic in a Montana Grizzlies comeback — a gritty, unshakable resilience that has become a defining part of the program’s identity. From the legendary 2009 playoff win over South Dakota State, when the Griz stormed back from a 41–14 deficit to score 40 unanswered points, to the stunning 2021 upset of No. 20 Washington in Seattle, Montana has proven time and again that no deficit is too deep and no moment too big. This “never say die” spirit is deeply rooted in the culture of Griz football — a mix of belief, toughness, and clutch execution that thrives when the pressure is highest. That same spirit now runs through quarterback Keali‘i Ah Yat, a rising talent who not only embodies the poise and fight of a true Grizzly leader but also carries the proud legacy of his father, Brian Ah Yat, one of the program’s all-time greats. Like his father before him, Keali‘i has shown the ability to stay calm under fire and rally his team when it matters most, orchestrating late drives and delivering when hope seems dim. With him under center, the Grizzlies’ comeback DNA feels alive and well — a tradition of heart, heritage, and heroics that ensures Montana will always be dangerous until the final whistle.

I think that never say die attitude and belief that no matter what the Griz will find a way is a Hauck trait that he somehow instills in his teams. Stitt DID NOT……. Delaney didn’t either. Look, I bitch and moan about the 3-3-5 defense, and I’m certainly never going to be accused of wearing rose colored glasses, but one thing I can say unequivocally, is that last season was basically the floor of a Bobby Hauck coached football team at Montana. 9 wins and a playoff berth. That’s the floor. We have it so good with Hauck again that we/I often forget how bad it was during the years after the debacle when Pflugrad was let go. This Bobby hauck stint he’s delivered what he said he would. We’re back to that same magic place as we were during his first stint, where you just know that somehow we’re going to win, and more often than not we do. Go Griz!

If Hauck wins a national championship, then he can be proclaimed as the greatest coach in Griz history. Don R will hold a special place and it would still be arguable that he is the greatest Griz coach ever. Until Hauck wins the big one, it is more of the same. Great facilities, boosters, history and fan base. Is Washington Grizzly the Mecca of FCS? Yeah, I think it is and Hauck needs to get it done. Yesterday was a mediocre performance. Second half was very solid. First half was just bad. A win is great. That type of performance needs to go the way of the dodo bird for the rest of the season. MSU is progressing from what I saw yesterday. Same could be said for SDSU, UC Davis, UND and NDSU.
