Wortham"s Eligibility (good) ?

If by arbitrary you mean the amount of time typically allotted to earn a bachelors degree, then I guess so. Why even make them attend school?
That's actually the perfect question to ask a sports apparatus currently trying to straddle being both a semi-professional sports league, and a college-based sports league with conflicting motives, rules and revenue systems lmao

But also yes, it's 100% arbitrary. They don't kill you if you don't graduate in 4 years.

Edit: On that same token, if it's about bachelor's degree time, why do they allow grad students to play? If you earn a degree in 3 years, should that kill your clock? I don't think it should work like that. In fact, if any truly psychotic football player wants to play while getting a PHD, more power to them lol

Average time, but you knew what I meant.

Yeah, I totally get you. I'm not saying it doesn't make sense. It does.

That still doesn't mean it's not arbitrary, especially with all the ways eligibility has been twisted and stretched to fit more and more outlying exceptions to that same idea.

If they just got rid of it, I believe it wouldn't change very much. The vast majority of college football players would still only play for 4-6 years, just like they do now. They could actually put a bigger emphasis back on actually being a student.

I'm also totally cool with the idea that these guys just stop being students and become real semi-professional players with contracts. Both of those ideas make more sense to me than trying to somehow have it both ways.

I think if they drop the student part and the 5 year eligibility clock, then I am probably all out.

I believe players should be able to play a limited number of years, and then have to move on to make room for younger players coming up. I understand the extra year for covid. Maybe one injury redshirt year, but not over and over. JC and NAIA should count.

can i try? wortham is faster, and makes quicker cuts. but he doesn't see the field on returns as well as bergen, who has a knack for finding the best seams to get through defenses. it seems wortham is a better route runner/receiver. so far his passes have been on target, to wide-open guys. bergen's pass against ndsu for the two pointer, which was mentioned in this thread, was deflected and caught on a 'lucky' bounce.
The pass bergen almost had his helmet ripped off attempting? 🙄
