Wing Targeting Call

Who called the targeting? Neither of the officials in the screen who had the best view of the play, were reaching for their flags.

As I said on another thread, listening on the radio feed off the internet and had TV sound on, coming out of the break on radio before ESPN came back on, Riley said the only think they could be looking at was the clock and whether the ball was snapped before the end of the quarter, which it was. When TV came back on, it didn't sound like they knew what was happening, but the Idaho bench was already jumping around in delight.
I don't see forceable contact to the head or neck area by Wing, and as with most plays, the two players get up and are jawing at each other. I don't even see why the review booth wanted to look at that as potential targeting. That is just a bad decision, at least from the angle we have there. I just can't see how that is anything but a legal tackle.

Hopefully the league/BSC reverses that.
They don't review those calls. That's what the replay review is supposed to do, but in cases like this, I feel like someone should have the authority to overrule what looks, from this angle, to be a blatant miss. Again, I don't even see what there was on that play for the review booth to even look at that play again, but the decision on targeting has been made.

I'm pretty sure the team can appeal and get the suspension for the 1st half of next weeks game reversed

Google AI says: The appeals process, established in 2022, allows a conference to submit a request to the NCAA national coordinator of football officials to review the call. If the review determines it is "clearly obvious" the player should not have been disqualified, the suspension is vacated.

Looks pretty weak to me. Watching the Oregon yesterday, I learned that it’s targeting if leading with the “crown of the helmet”

Crown of the Helmet:
A player commits targeting if they lead with the crown (the top part) of their helmet, regardless of whether the contact is made to the head or neck area of the runner

Tough to tell from that angle….i suppose it possible he led with his crown, but I don’t like the call.

So no flag thrown and no penalty, or was there a penalty? Did the call come from the review booth? Weird.
There was a penalty awarded, unfortunately. They gave them half the distance and moved them from the 14 to 7 while the TV timeout was coming back.

Without a better angle, it's tough to say if it was warranted, but it does look very suspect from the angle we have.

I hope we appeal, it couldn't hurt to try

I would bet dollars to donuts Bobby will appeal that. And it could be overturned. I sure hope so because that was bogus.
I would 100% agree with you, if he can, he has already seen it and the wheels will get rolling on that first thing tomorrow. I'm just not convinced that a 2022 rule that was APPROVED FOR 2022 still applies, but I hope it does. We pulled up the ESPNU replay just to rewind it back to watch that play on the larger screen and it amazes me that they reviewed the hit. We had to see 3 extra minutes of commercials to get to the start of the 4th quarter and you can just hear the referee with seemingly his mic breaking up announce the disqualification and Peyton I think is on the field asking why. It seems like the whole thing was conducted in such a covert manner.
The other thing I was thinking was because of all the chippy action in this game, the fact that our reputation is that we engage in a lot of what Idaho was doing that our guys didn't exactly fall for, we will get a special crew assigned out of Ogden to make sure the game in Pocatello is called much closer. I hope not, but I fear it, if for no other reason, Idaho was just a straight up bunch of punks both on the field and on the sidelines.
