Apparently Haslam was close to leaving

Yeah, we commented some time ago that Kent would likely be strongly considered for that role. He's from Utah, is LDS and has a lot of contacts in the state. Glad they chose Walker instead!
Yeah, I remember the posts/comments. I shouldn't have worded it in a way that made it seem like new news.

I attended my class reunion this past Labor Day, and I was able to visit with the former Utah State president, Noelle Cocket, about the AD position that was open at Utah State. I mentioned that I thought our current AD, Haslam, would probably show interest in the position and she smiled as if she knew something.

According to the Utah State fan board, it came down to Walker and Haslam as the top 2. Sounds like Haslam had the support of the Football and Basketball coaches but they were drawn to Walker working in multiple P5 athletic departments. I think it's a tough call either way. You can take the guy that's been an AD for 15 years and has the fundraising and facilities background, or you can take the guy from the P5 who probably has lots of experience in the NIL and revenue sharing era. Seems like a coin flip to me. They both have ties to the area so you probably couldn't have gone wrong with either of them.

This is very deja vu, right? Maybe even with a USU AD search in previous years.

Haslam flying the coup for a better gig would be exceptional, as the last Montana AD to do so was Bill Moos.

I think Kent's parents still live in Logan. And his kids go to, or have gone to school at USU. But he is a BYU kid, would be like hiring a bobcat at UM.

Personally, I like Haslam. He always responds to emails and I think has been a valuable member of Griz Nation.

Griz football is 3-0. Soccer is 5-0. And volleyball is 8-0 in last 3 weeks. Basketball won a chipper and went to big dance. Girls hoops found their coach and is poised to have a big season.

I think things are pretty great in Griz Nation.

GFP posted a photo of him from the game, obviously just having some fun with it.

Kind of makes you wonder though, had he recently found out he didn't get the job? Or am I just reading WAY too much into the photo?

I’m always curious about Haslam. You ask people that have been around a while. And a lot of good ole grizzlies do not like him. But I’ve never really gotten a good answer. I think his personality probably leaves some people salty but idk.

From a job standpoint it seems like he would be considered as being relatively successful. Teams have been good. Teams have won titles and made championships. And he has been successful from a facilities standpoint.

Be interested in hearing people’s reasoning for not liking him.

Kent Haslam called me on my cell phone while driving when I as living in San Diego in 2013 because of a post made on Egriz which I forwarded to him with my comments. This was just when I was moving to Texas. Pulled over and spent about 5 minutes on the phone with him. The call was about FB & financial support. To me he felt like a concerned AD. I also never expected I would get a call. I never requested the call.
